Hani
Sakeenah
Fatin

1. Surah Al-Imran:67

"Abraham was neither Jew nor a Christian, but he was one inclining toward truth, a Muslim [submitting to Allah]. And he was not of the polytheists"

Verse related to: Attention
From this verse, we can understand that all Muslims should devote to Allah and only Allah alone. In this verse we can see that prophet Abraham put his full attention to the truth that Allah had sent down to him. He wanted his followers to worship Allah who is the true God and focus on preaching people to enter Islam, the true religion. We, as Muslims, the thought of trying another religion besides Islam can never come to mind. We have to really stick and focus to one religion of truth which is Islam. The Prophet before us had struggled and experienced hardship to make people enter Islam so we do not have the right to disrespect their efforts and choose other religions.

2. Surah Al-Imran: 60

"The truth is from your Lord, so do not be among the doubters"

In this verse, we are advised to use our cognitive abilities to the fullest by not doubting Allah's words for it is undeniably the truth. Indirectly, Muslims are required to explore the truth that is provided by Allah instead of being uncertain. Therefore, we are encouraged to explore the world created by Allah and understand the meaning behind Quranic verses especially ones related to science. The Quran is the truth, we just have to read it thoroughly. Reading thoroughly requires multiple cognitive processes such as giving attention, understanding a language, coming up with mental imageries, concept formation and detailed perception. We are given the faculty of thinking and we are prompted to use it wisely.

3. Surah Al Imran: 83

" So is it other than religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted (all) those within the heaven and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?"

In this verse, Allah used the inquisitive thinking style in which Allah present this ayah in form of a question so that it stimulates people to think. Allah is questioning on why the unbelievers are still opting to worship other than Allah when if they look and think carefully, everything in this universe are abide by the laws of Allah in which all of them are submitting themselves to Allah thus the universe is in perfect order. For example, how the earth rotate round in own axis which results in the formation of days and night every single day without fail.

The late hours of the night are usually quiet and most people are still sleeping. Therefore, it means less distraction. In fact, it mentioned in this verse "Verily, there is for you by prolonged occupation" and therefore night is convenient time for remembrance of Allah. As you may know already, spending last hours of the night by worshipping Allah gives us more attention and focus only to Him. As follows, mind and soul will also submit without any disturbance. They were blaming one another for the murder. Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala instructed them to strike a piece of the cow on the dead man. The scholars say either the Children of Israel were commanded to strike any piece of the cow or a specific piece such as, striking the leg of the cow on the leg of the dead man. This was because, as mentioned earlier, their belief about the Hereafter had gone corrupt. They had doubts about the resurrection. And Allah knows best.

Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala made this incident a proof against the Jews that the Resurrection shall definitely occur.

Syahirah
Halimah
Finda

(2:219)

TRANSLATION
“They ask you (O Muhammad ) concerning alcoholic drink and gambling. Say: "In them is a great sin, and (some) benefit for men, but the sin of them is greater than their benefit." And they ask you what they ought to spend. Say: "That which is beyond your needs." Thus Allah makes clear to you His Laws in order that you may give thought."

MEANING FROM US
What I understand from this verse is at the call of Islam, people habitually used to drink wine although it had been forbidden in the former religions. The Divine Messages gradually made them ready to accept its prohibition and regarding to the question, when the Prophet (S) is asked about they ought to spend, that is, if you desire to spend, you should observe both moderation, and do not disburse all your property as charity so that thereafter you yourself become needy. It shows that we need to think to differentiate between good and bad. We should think about what we can or not do, and what have been forbidden. Human needs to think to lead their life to better way.

(2:213)

TRANSLATION
“Mankind was [of] one religion [before their deviation]; then Allah sent the prophets as bringers of good tidings and warners and sent down with them the Scripture in truth to judge between the people concerning that in which they differed. And none differed over the Scripture except those who were given it - after the clear proofs came to them - out of jealous animosity among themselves. And Allah guided those who believed to the truth concerning that over which they had differed, by His permission. And Allah guides whom He wills to a straight path.”

MEANING FROM US
Based on the ayah, there are the conflict of opinions among the human being. This opinion is surely come from the thinking and the cognitive process of humans where every different person may come out with different ideas, perceptions and views. And for sure, no one can decide which one is true and which one is false. This suggests that human thinking ability is very limited and this also sometime may lead to the argument among themselves. However, Allah have sent the Book of Guidance which is Al-Quran through Prophet Muhammad to guide human being in making decision and to help men to think in a right way. Besides, Allah also will give the guidance for those who believe on Him. In conclusion, as human being we should be aware of the weakness of our thinking skill and making divine revelation as guidance.

(2:242)

TRANSLATION
"Thus does Allah make clear to you His verses that you might use reason."

MEANING FROM US
This surah showed that Al-Quran as the explainer for the human being. Basically, this ayaH has related to the previous verse that Allah explain about 'iddah on women who has left by her husband and a gift to the divorced woman. From that, Allah has explained about His permission, prohibition, and command to the people so that they will understand more on how to manage life. Allah will not just simply left the verse that give global/general meaning to human even though human have the 'aql to think wisely. Allah knows better than human knowledge. Human have limitation on their 'aql. In this verse, Allah explained the problem and solution of some matters very clearly and straight to the point so that people will have clear understanding on it and think about its lesson further. From Many scholars have come out with various opinions on some issues, but they still follow the same principle because they have a clear understanding on Islam. From that, the process of human cognitive will have better guideline from Allah.
