Smartwatches are the new craze now. Every company is jumping on this bandwagon and making a smartwatch of their own. Google just announced today that it will be releasing 2 new flagship smartwatches in the first quarter of 2017.

There seems to be a great deal of interest in smartwatches now but the consumer market says otherwise. When the first Smartwatch was introduced into the scene, it was very well received and this started the Smartwatch take over. However like a wave with ebb and flow, nothing last. Soon enough, consumer demand for Smartwatch started to decline. One of the major players in this industry is Apple. With a Smartwatch of their own "Apple Watch", they were able to continuously pique customer's interest by constantly upgrading and adding new features to their Smartwatches.

One of the main reasons for the decline in interest for Smartwatches was the functionality of these watches. Yes, they look nice and acts as a fashion accessory but what makes it different from a Rolex? One of the reasons why Apple Watch has been head and shoulders above its competitors is the fact that their Smartwatch come equipped with better functions. The constant upgrades and patching was done to meet the consumer's request for more than just a pretty watch, for a watch that actually serves as a sophisticated technology. Spear-leading the way for greater technology on smartwatches, Apple has forced my other companies to adopt newer technology to remain competitive in this industry. Hence the projected growth in smartwatches in the near future.

With every 1 in 6 person owning a smartwatch, the sales of smartwatches company are booming, until now.

This year, reports and statistics have shown that the sales of smartwatches including its shipment have declined and have cost big companies such as the Market Leader Apple Watches a big decrease in sales. Many of the consumers are finding it a luxury to have one. As the economy turns from bad to worse, many consumers felt that it is not necessary to have one. This has therefore caused a 51.6% decrease in smartwatches market sold in 2016 compared to 2015.

However, This has not deterred "Apple Watches" from producing their second generation watch as it is expected to have a increase in sales as consumers are preparing for gifts during christmas.

With other big companies like pebble and samsung producing more aesthetic design with more features, the smartwatch market is getting more competitive . Resulting in lesser sales for each company.
