From Mukhtar (G12)

Hello, My name is Mukhtar and I'm a senior at Woodstock. I am currently at home, Somaliland East Africa. I'm lucky to be with my family at this hard time, but at the same time I'm worried about my visa. I'm worried that I will not be able to go back to school and spend time with my friends during my senior year. All of us are worrying about at-least one thing, just know it is not only you who is worrying, we are all in this together. Through this hard time I have learned two magnificent lessons, which are to be grateful for what you have and to take advantage of these situations (quarantine, distance learning) to know more about yourself. For me, I am grateful for my family, I don't know the next time I will spend this much time with them as a student who is in a boarding school. They ceaselessly motivate me and make sure that my stress doesn't act as a preclusion to my ability of being the best version of myself. During this hard time I forced myself to see the positive side of everything. If you think about it, we don't know the next time we will be doing distance learning or quarantine, it might be the first and last time; we are making history yayy wohoo. So be open-minded to doing things you never used to do, find new opportunities. Distance learning has changed me as a student, it made me more independent student, which I am grateful for. I also do what I am best at, playing basketball. Playing basketball is what makes me feel myself and it is my "safe place". So please find that thing that makes you feel your self or makes you happy.

All of us need to stay positive, be grateful for what we have and live the moment.

One of the most difficult things that I have experienced during this pandemic is I could not go home because of Visa issues. I have stayed most of the time in the dorms alone, but I did not feel lonely because my dorm parents, family, friends and some Ws staff members were there with me. They took a great care of me.
