1.At a very young age I wasn't really into books. The books that I read just didn’t interest me at all. Reading just feels like a boring chore like mowing the lawn. I know that reading is very important in school because everything has reading in it. I usually just read for homework assignments or if a book is mandatory to read. However, I have been really interested in Ebooks. I feel like it’s easier than carrying a book in my hands when I can have it on my phone. Ebooks have a bunch of genres where I can find my favorite type of books. My favorite type of genre would be crime fiction. To help me focus on reading textbooks or regular books for classes I do a piece of candy at the end of the chapter. I won’t eat the candy until I’m finished which helps me push through.

2. I write almost everyday because I use texting apps to communicate with my friends and family. When it comes to writing in text messages it's super fun because you want to text people, however writing for classes like English class can be hard sometimes because I get writer's block from time to time where I have no Idea what to write about. Usually when I don’t get writer's block I find it fun because you get to tell an audience a story which I find super entertaining to hook the audience. Some tools I use for writing would be listening to music to help me focus on writing or I just take a five to ten minute break to help me destress.

I used to read a good amount when I was young, however, my relationship with reading is currently quite rocky. It has been quite hard for me to be able to find a book that really catches my attention and doesn’t let it go. Often times I will start a book but end up stopping because either something comes up or a section of the book is not interesting anymore. The kinds of books that tend to catch my attention would be mystery and crime. Whenever I do need to read, especially when I need to finish reading for class, what I tend to do is divide the reading into smaller sections. This tool tends to help me due to the fact that it tends to trick my brain into thinking that I have less reading to do.
When it comes to writing I would say that my relationship with it is pretty positive. I’ve always really liked to write and tend to use it as a form to express myself. In high school whenever I would be really stressed I would write down some poetry and liked writing enough to join the writing center as a tutor to help students with their writing. I’m not sure why but I’ve always found that writing could be really calming for me at times. Not only that but I also use writing in my daily life due to texting now being the main way that I communicate with my friends due to being very far away from each other. The tools that I use when I am writing academically would most likely be google docs but for non-academically reasons, the tools that I tend to use would be Instagram, Imessage, and Discord in order to connect with friends and family.

My relationship with reading as of now is relatively nothing, I do not read in my free time, also I have never picked up a book and was eager to read it. I feel that I have always been distant from reading books because the majority of the books that I had read in school never really interested me. I don't feel that I have any positive or negative associations with reading. The only thing that doesn't draw my attention to reading is that I think that every book is like something that you would essentially read in class. Although I do not read any books the specific books that draw my attention more are about romance or anything that teaches you valuable lessons. In other words, even though I do not read books, I do read news articles that are published on Instagram or short stories that people post on their Instagram stories about things that they may have encountered. In general, I do not have a solid relationship with reading but I would like to change that by reading books that I believe are interesting and most importantly will teach me something about myself or life. On the other hand, my relationship with writing is an everyday use because I am constantly sending text messages or I am writing emails. I believe that I have a positive association with writing because of the writing skills that I have learned throughout high school which have helped me construct well-developed emails. Also, if I'm being honest, I genuinely enjoy writing because I feel that every time that I am writing something I am constantly learning new techniques that can help better my writing. The things that I write vary from text messages, emails, daily reminders, and notes that I write down every now and then. The tools that I use when writing things down are social media apps, Gmail, and sticky notes. As for the tools that I use when it comes to writing such as writing assignments I tend to use an outline that I create to better help me develop a good essay.

My relationship with reading is getting better. I used to be an avid reader, I would read a new book every week when I was younger (sixth grade me). Now I'm starting to get back into reading for fun, not just for a class assignment. I have a positive association with reading, I love to read most genres but my favorite is romance. I did however notice that because I preferred this genre nothing else would interest me when we had class assignments, I strongly dislike Shakespeare and history books were never for me. I loved assignments when we had to read The Great Gatsby or Pride and Prejudice because they had love stories. I do love having a physical book with me but I also like to read online.

I have always been a student on top of my assignments, except when it came to essays. I would write my essays at the last minute and would receive high marks so I never worried about writing. I would say I have a positive and negative association with writing. I love to write poetry, I don't entirely hate to write essays but because I was so used to writing them last minute they stress me out which is partly my fault. I like to write poetry because you don’t have to explain much and it can still be really impactful. Whereas essays there are so many components to it, it makes it less enjoyable when writing, especially when it’s on a topic I'm not interested in. I prefer to hand write poetry but I like to type my essays. I will say when I allow myself time to write essays the best part is always typing, it’s soothing in some way.

1. Currently I am trying to get back into reading again. I have been extremely busy with deciding my college classes and filling loads of paperwork that I haven't had the time to open a book. I got interested into books in middle school. The first book I actually fully read was, "The fault in our stars," by John Green and it made me feel so much emotions. I never realized books could make me feel emotions like movies do. Ever since, I read many books about coming of age and Dystopian worlds. I feel like I have a positive association with books. I personally don't like or enjoy reading books online because it's not the same feeling as holding a real book and feeling the crisp pages when you turn them.

2. My relationship with writing right now is vague. I sometimes write poems when I feel inspired which is rarely. The biggest piece of writing I have ever written was my graduation speech. I put my heart into that speech and meant every single word I wrote. I only enjoy creative writing because there are no limits. I can write freely and write whatever I want. I detested the assignments my English teacher would give me because I struggled writing them. I never fully understood how to properly write a synthesis essay. I guess I have a love, hate relationship with writing. The tools I usually use to write are google docs because it always saves my work or I enjoy writing in my journal.

1.) I started reading around 4 years old. I don't remember what book it was, but I remember that I was hooked on reading. Day in day out, I had a book in my hand. I read so often that my parents had to make it a rule that I couldn't read at the table. It stuck with me throughout most of my life. I started reading Harry Potter in 3rd grade, and I'm talking about Order of The Phoenix, not just The Philosopher's Stone. I loved to read so much that I read through almost every fantasy and science fiction novel I could find. Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, Lord of The Rings, Percy Jackson, you name it, I've probably read it. But that started to fade into the background around halfway through high school, I just became so busy that I was never able to find the time to read a book. I still read small books here and there, but it's not nearly as often as it used to be, and as I would like to.

2.) My relationship with writing is strange to say the least. I write a lot, it's not like I don't write at all. But I write in so many ways. I wrote poetry for a spoken word club I used to be a part of, and I still write occasionally. I would pump out 4 poems in a day, some awful some amazing. Now, I'm lucky to get one out in a week. I also write stories, I'm in the process of writing a multi chapter novel that I hope to be the first in a series but that's nothing more than aspirations. I do write stories in other mediums, more complicated and not really able to be followed that well through the writing, but they are stories none the less.

1. I read whenever I feel bored enough with my daily activities or sometimes when I am stressed about writing. I've always been told that reading is one of the best ways to improve in writing since it helps you develop your vocabulary. At a certain period in my life, reading became a coping mechanism, and it helped me escape from my stressful and overwhelming reality. Just like gaming and movies, it became a last resort that felt more productive than other activities. It didn't require much except a finger swipe to the next page or a simple turning of the pages.
I love reading books with a plot twist or with a good thriller and horror storyline. Majority of the books I read on my own time are fiction, but I also do love reading poetry.
I like the feel of physical hardcover books but it's inconvenient when I want to read and lay down at the same time. Now I read on kindle or sometimes I just find free audiobooks on YouTube if that counts as reading.
2. I don't love writing because I never saw any progress in any of my writing classes. Majority of the topics I have been writing about also often do not relate or interest me. Usually my better, more creative ideas come really slow. Even after I am done writing a piece for an assignment, I somehow notice ways to improve it thirty seconds after submitting it. I do enjoy writing stories, quotes and poems. My go-to is the notes app on my phone. Otherwise, I prefer typing over writing on a piece of paper since it's a lot easier to revise your work online than with pen and paper.

My relationship with reading has deteriorated throughout the years. As much as I try to pick up a book and finish it, I end up losing interest halfway or less than halfway. I miss being able to binge read. I have a very positive association with reading, as a kid I always had my nose in a book and my parents would tell me to stop reading so much because it was bad for my eyesight. I think I enjoyed reading so much because I was able to visualize the characters, the scenery, and so on. I used to read fantasy, dystopian, slice of life, romance, adventure, and historical fiction. The kind of tools I would use would be my imagination.
My relationship with writing right now is simply decent. I only write for school. However, I sometimes find the urge to write in a journal or start a novel, but I end up getting bored or feeling to overflown with ideas so I just leave it halfway done. I have both positive and negative associations with writing. I liked writing the creative stories they would have us do in elementary and middle school, however, I took a turn for disliking writing in high school, where we would have to write about topics I had no interest in. There were instances were we could choose our topics and I feel like my writing was better in those than in the ones were the teacher chose for us. Also, I liked my writing better when I could use my own sources and do my own research. My senior year, our teacher gave us all the same resources and topic and I really really disliked writing that way. It felt limiting and intensively repetitive, because when I wanted feedback or hear ideas from others we would all have the same things and ideas. The papers I have recently written about are research and argumentative essays. The tools I use are online databases, books, common sense, and articles. It depends on what I'm writing about.

1. My relationship with reading right now isn't the healthiest. I've always struggled with my comprehension skills but after quarantine I think I got a little better at it. I think I have a slightly negative associations with reading because when I was younger my parents would use reading as a way of "punishment". If I ever misbehaved at school or at home my punishment would be to read for 30 minutes😭. As of now, I like reading some novels, short stories, tweets, and Reddit stories. I really like using a physical copy of what i'm reading since I struggle with migraines a lot and being on a computer for a long time makes me get them. I also use my phone, but also not for a long period of time just throughout the day.
2. My relationship With professional writing is always changing, but recently I've been able to work on it a little more since I've been emailing almost every faculty at UCDavis these pass few months. I text my family a lot especially our group chat and whenever I have good tea to tell my friends back home, so I'm good at that type of writing. I enjoy writing so I think I have a positive association with it, but I do tend to struggle with starting off the writing process (even through text). I like writing anything I could put my opinion to or add some of my personality to it. Writing tweets and coming up with captions on my spam is some of my favorite type of stress relieving writing. occasionally I'll write on a canvas and express what I'm feeling or whatever the situation might be and then I'll paint over it and make a new wall decor. Some tools I use for writing is my computer, my phone, and a pencil/pen. Some tools that help me continue writing is music or a background show/movie going on, but something I've already seen before. Other times I just have to be completely silent and reward myself with breaks once I finish or get to a certain point.

1) I love to read books I enjoy, I wish I prioritized reading more, but I don't. I love to read romance books in my free time, and I get so invested in them. I think I have a "frenemies" (friends and enemies) relationship with reading. I love it, but I also hate it sometimes. I really don't mind reading, I love to visualize the scenes in my head. But sometimes, I get so lazy to keep going, and just stop where I am. Lately, however, I have been reading a lot of Children's books, they are so easy to read, and very fun (I work with children, so that is why I read a lot of children's books). Something I do love to read though, is poetry, I love the rhyming aspect of it, and just the inspiration and passion behind it. Some reading tools I use is TikTok, which may sound surprising, but there are a lot of videos where it requires you to read. TikTok reading is fun, because you discover stories, and get a laugh out of it.

2) Writing is something I had always wanted to improve on. I do enjoy writing essays for class, and especially when you are able to choose the topic, and write about topics you love. I like to think that writing is therapy. It helps me destress and frankly, I think it may have something to do with the keyboard clicking sounds that makes it so relaxing. I like to make writing visually appealing when writing notes, and I love to buy new markers, or use different fonts when possible. Some tools I use it the classic; pencil and paper, or my iPad.

1. Currently I have a good relationship with reading. I've always enjoyed reading as a hobby because I find it therapeutic. Most of my reading associations have been positive, whether I liked the book I was reading or not I gained something from it. For example, what kind of genre I prefer. I like reading a variety of genres, for instance action, romance, fantasy, mystery, and poetry. I prefer having a physical copy of a book especially because I get to smell and flip through the pages. Other tools I have used recently are webtoons and eBooks whenever a book isn't available at my local library and in some rare occasion's newspaper.

2. My relationship with writing right now is a work in progress. It all depends on what kind of writing I'm completing for example if it's an essay on a topic I don't quite understand or know how to approach it, I'll feel less enthusiastic to complete it however if I'm writing for myself about things I'm interested in, I could write for a long time. I encounter both positive and negative associations, meaning sometimes I'm content with the final product of my writing but other times I don't think it's good enough. Recently, I started journaling and it's quite relaxing as I have a chance to reflect on my day and let go of things without necessarily venting to someone. Additionally, a kind of writing I do every day is text to keep in touch with my family and friends back home. Some tools I use for my writing are google docs and a journal/agenda when I write on paper.

I'm not a tough crowd, I just have a short attention span. This being said, if I were to get interested in something I will start doing research and reading papers to inform myself as much as possible. I like to read a lot of science fiction, and anything to do with time travel. In the past I've read things like Everyday by David Leviathan, and Scythe by Neal Shusterman. The tools I used to access these books were going to the library and checking them out or using an app that would lend ebooks to you.

My relationship with writing has always been on and off. I like to write and express myself but only when I get some sort of spark. If it's some sort of assignment, I just do it because of the fear of failing. I don't want to get a bad grade so I do my work. Up until now, my teachers have said that I am a good writer. I haven't written anything as of late, but I tend to just write a lot of texts and every once in a while some sort of brain dump. I've been thinking about starting a personal journal to document my college experience in some type of way. I would set it up in a way that I would write in it at night before going to sleep if something interesting happened throughout the day. I still havent started it but that's the type of writing that I like. As for tools, I'm not too sure what you're asking for. I assume it's asking about literary devices and stuff like that. I'm kind of big on grammar so I tend to check and check my writing to make sure I didn’t make mistakes, however I always miss something.

In all my 17 years of living I can honestly say that I have never had a relationship with reading that was not forced, despite that there have been a handful of good times. One of them was this year when my English class read The Great Gatsby and I genuinely enjoyed reading the novel from the start to finish and to this day I am unsure if it was because the book was so interesting or when we were reading it I was just in a scholarly mood. As of today, reading is something I do not do or strive to do in my free time although I really should but the times, I do read it is really hit or miss. What I mean by this is I can read something and relate to it in some way and finish it or I can read it and be off track thinking of something else and not be able to read the next sentence. It's not even that I have any sort of negative associations with reading, it's merely just because it's not for me. Like reading, writing is something I don't do unless it's through text. I only write when it comes to school and that is the only time, I try to take it as seriously as possible. I'm not really sure if i like or dislike writing but one thing i am sure of is that i always seem to have a good time in my English classes because i honestly want to get better at writing because it was my personal goal to do so after making a promise to my English teacher before the school year ended and i hope with taking this class and others i make good on my promise and email her one day a paper i turned in that was amazing.
