The infant is observing the mothers body language, tone of voice and spaces between conversation to model response time. The infant is making connections with it's external senses such as sight, sound and touch, and it is apparent that this infant is familiar and emotionally regulated in the presence of the mother due to consistent modelling and relationship building. From the video we could see that the mother was offering a response and also questions (prompts) to the baby in which the baby was responding. The baby would respond in either mimicking the mothers facial expressions, sounds and even trying to move their mouth and tongue in a similar way. We could also see the baby responding to the mothers physical cues (ie, the babies outfit). When the mother was pointing and gesturing towards the babies outfit, the baby was recognising this cue and reciprocating the movements. Mother uses a very gentle voice talking to baby, maintaining the communicating by talking to the baby while baby replies by cooing. 
Mother support baby's back with her left hand and she placed her right hand on baby's chest.

While the mother is leading the interaction through words, she is actually going off of the actions of the infant, through their eye-contact, body movement, facial movements, vocal sounds. The mother is encouraging the infant to participate in the interaction in the way she is holding them (room for arm movement). Even by repeating a sentence, "tell me more", even though the infant might not understand those words, the mother is still reaffirming her sentence, thus the infant would notice a repeat in word sound.

The mother explores a range of tones in her voice and even reminds the infant of the bouncy feeling from the swing by physically bouncing them, bringing a big smile to the infants face.

Something in particular that struck me was how the mother was giving the baby time to respond. She would ask a question and then wait. She never spoke over him, she allowed him time to respond in his own way so that the 'conversation' was two way. I think that adults like to fill quiet with words.

- The physical interaction also affects the engagement and sense of connection. The parent rocking/bouncing the infant results in babbling and smiling. Infant holds parent's hand while listening, 'talking' and maintaining eye contact.

Both mother and infant are content, calm and available to one another, even despite at times, there being the distraction of others. 

The mother maintains eye contact with the infant, holding him upright and at eye level. She provides verbal communication, pausing for the infants sounds and gestures before responding in turn. She mimics the infant's facial expressions and head movements and frequently provides an interpretation of these verbally. Her voice is highly pitched yet calm and slow. She appears to participate in the interaction with seemingly unconscious effort. 

The infant also maintains eye contact with his mother, as well as physical contact by keeping his hands on hers. The infant shows joy in the movement his mother provides him (rocking backwards), smiling and babbling. This encourages her to continue the action. The baby is babbling and being positively rewarded/reinforced for the effort through the responses of the mum. She’s using similar sounds, but also full sentences and asking and/or ‘answering’ questions, which in turn encourages the baby to respond. She’s also very responsive to the baby’s cues

Non-verbal interactions are also used: Eye contact is maintained throughout, as well as smiles, and while mum is using touch to hold the baby, the baby is also periodically holding her hands/fingers.

When baby pushed its weight back, mother strengthened the support and bobbed the baby - responding with smiles and excited squinty eyes. He responded verbally through voices he made at some points. He was attentive as his eyes were towards mum all the time and filled with joy at some points.
It was amazing how mum was putting infant's experiences into words and somehow expressing the infant. I feel and have heard there are many benefits in this, but somehow I felt mum's response to infant and environment missed some pause, infant language, and more listening. I became judgmental that the words and mum's interpretation of infant language (mum's verbal communication) did not give enough space to infant language such as making his own voice, or reflecting back the joy. in one hand, I understand mum's great intention, and in the other, I wonder whether intention might block us from being open and attuned to what comes up in the moment.

There was a cadence to her voice that he seemed very responsive to e.g. when she lowered her volume slightly, he responded with higher pitched, louder vocalisation. In turn, she mimicked the volume and there seemed to be a real attunement in those moments. There was a lot of playfulness as well, especially when she tipped him back and forth. His raised eyebrows seemed to be a cue to her to keep going and later he pushed his body down again. 
Mother and baby had very consistent eye contact, even when another child came into the room and tried to get her attention. We only had a side view of her face but his mother was nodding, raising her eyebrows and opening her mouth widely to mirror the baby.

I found the interaction between mother and baby to be extremely uplifting. She had such a calming voice and was really looking into her baby's soul. Her level of engagement was very devotional and she held the baby's interest for a long period of time - in baby time, that is. 

There was reciprocal communication even though bub was simply making sounds. The mother did such a great job of integrating the affect and contribution the baby made to the ongoing interaction. She was quite structured yet obviously informal in her questions, and held baby's attention and maintained calm. 
I loved seeing the eye contact between them and the animated moments where the baby had something to 'say' and also expressing at some points with his hands. 

He seemed to particularly enjoy the rocking back and forth motion.
