Academic - I intend to work on a new song idea every week for the first few weeks of term, simply for the sake of creation as I tend to overthink things. I feel working this way will really help me to get the ball rolling and will enable me to focus on my favourite idea for my summative assignment.

Musical - I would like to improve my ability on Logic as currently I have very little experience with it. I endeavour to be constantly building on who I am and who I want to be as an artist. By the end of the term I want to have a solid, polished track for potential release.

Professional - I want to set up social media platforms for my music & start posting on them and be actively working towards writing an EP.

This week I began working on an original track called 'too much 4 u'. I was inspired by the song 'Hungover' by Eloise (Eloise, 2021), particularly how the melody flows and builds into the chorus. I started by creating a new chord progression with some of the chords from the song, ending up with; Bbm7, Eb7, F7, Fm7. Humming over the top of these chords I gradually pieced together a top-line melody. I had an impulse to write to about finally finding my voice and realising my worth after going through a bad break up, forming the idea for foundation of my lyric writing.

'Lie like the nights spent undercover' having a double meaning - both lying in bed & also living a lie with someone who wasn't right for me, linking to the 'script' line where I'm relating this feeling with living someone else's narrative.

In class this week we discussed the 'melody skeleton' and the importance of verses having the a similar vibe but having slight differences to keep the listener interested. I made sure there were subtle changes in the repeated phrases in the second verse - 'get enough from you' rather than 'feel enough for you' to highlight my evolving confidence throughout the song. However I feel the timing/ lyrical rhythm might need some more work as it feels quite busy.

In my second songwriting lesson this week I developed the song's chord progression with my tutor. We came up with the following instead as it fitted the melody better:

Gm, Cm7, Dm7, Dmaj7 - verses

Ebmaj, Dmaj - pre-chorus

Gm, Bbmaj, Cm, D - chorus
