It took some time to improve the engine performance, booster rocket recovery, and overall reusability of the rocket design (falcon 1).

Most of its strategy went into what competitors like Lockheed Martin and Boeing were NOT doing. And so, the essential criteria for recruitment is passion and interest in space exploration, and not really hard experience or even education! A common question used by Elon Musk himself in interviews show a lot in terms of common sense or IQ test perspective. Space-X wanted to do things differently from the start.

I think the research approach is heavily positivist as it relied heavily in testing new theories and gathering empirical data from several trial runs. It is a typical mill-run of laboratory examinations-type of experiments while continuously learning, adapting, and improving.

Arnel Gamboa

Question 1: Yes, SpaceX faced numerous failures during its early years. The Falcon 1 rocket experienced three failed launches before its fourth attempt successfully reached orbit in September 2008. Prior to that, SpaceX faced financial hardships and came close to bankruptcy.

Question 2: To achieve success, SpaceX conducted extensive research and development efforts. They invested in the development of the Merlin engine, which played a significant role in reducing costs and achieving efficiency. SpaceX also focused on the novel concept of reusable rockets, which aimed to bring down the cost of space travel significantly. This involved extensive research and experimentation to perfect the technology required for rocket reusability.

Question 3: The research framework adopted by SpaceX can be described as iterative and innovation-driven. They aimed to disrupt the aerospace industry by introducing new technologies and challenging existing norms. This involved continuous research, prototyping, and refinement of their rockets and engines. SpaceX also leveraged partnerships with NASA to gain knowledge and expertise from experienced industry players.

Overall, SpaceX's approach involved a combination of technological innovation, cost reduction, and collaboration to achieve success in the space industry.
