Genders definition is the male sex or the female sex, especially when considered with reference to social and cultural rather than biological ones.

There are 51% women and 49% men. in 2023/4, females are recorded as 16% of crimes compared to 84% of men. Females delt with less severe offenses in court. Violence against another person, male is 26% and female is 28%. Sexual offences, women 59% and 64%. depending on the gender, the criminal act that they commit will differ like male are more prone to sexual assault and females are more prone to violent acts.

Men are 49% of the UK population yet do 84% get arrested, 78% get arrested, 78% prosecutions and convictions, 95 remanded by court, 93% are in immediate custodial sentences meaning they do more severe crimes and 96% of the prison population therefore Gender contributes to the figure of crime as more men get into legal trouble and women have less offenses, and severely less harsher crimes.

Ethnicity refers to a social group's shared cultural background, which includes factors like language, ancestry, traditions, religion and shared experiences.

It is different to race as this is often based off physical traits.

different ethnicities have disproportionate arrest rates, for example black and mixed ethnic groups may be victims of bias from the police force (stop and search policies being used in predominantly ethnic areas, in addition these groups may receive harsher punishments than the white counterparts

Based off UK crime official statistics it shows that ethnic minority groups are disproportionately over-represented in arrest and in prison populations.

For some statistics the Home Office and Ministry of Justice it showcases that black individuals are arrested significantly higher rates than Caucasian people- which is compared to 20.4 per 1000 people to the comparison 9.4 per 1000 people.

From 2021 the ethnic population of the UK was 18.3% (or around 9 to 10 million) with most inhabiting major cities such as London, Birmingham and Manchester etc.

Social Class

What does our title present?

Social class is the different in classes in society. For example, the higher class are people with a lot of money, then you have the middle class which isn't rich, but has enough money to get through day by day life. Finally, the lower class are people that are making under the minimum wage pay and is not living a luxuries life.

How does our title contribute towards crime? Including statistics to back up my evidence.

Social classes contributes to crime by creating disparities that drive people towards criminal activity, such as economic deprivation and status frustration, while also influencing the types of crimes committed and focus of criminal justice enforcement. Higher rates of poverty in different social groups also have negative affects on people and can lead to them committing crime.

To summarize how crime can have a overall effect on society I will provide what has been stated previously with factual statistics to back up with what we stated. A statistic shows that in 2024, London's most income-deprived of areas recorded 41% more crimes than the least income-deprived areas, with violence, robbery and weapons offenses being over twice as prevalent in deprived areas. In 2023 study found that crime like drugs and weapons offenses were 2.5 times more apparent in income deprived area when compared to those who aren't.

Age represents how long someone or something has been alive or existed for.

Location represents the place in the world where the criminal is located. Depending on the area crimes can be higher or lower for example urban areas often have a noticeably higher rate of crime compared to rural areas this is for a multitude of reasons like poverty and social diversity but statistics on this can be very misleading because per capita (per 1000) it states their are more crime in rural areas but this just means their are more crimes per person but overall their are more crimes in urban areas. recent UK data shows a significant surge in rural crime, rising faster than in urban areas, with a 32% increase since 2011 compared to 24% for urban areas as of 2024.

Also, different crimes are prevalent in different areas for example in rural areas the most common crimes are livestock related or illegal dumping but on the other hand in urban areas the most common crime petty theft and robbery. A study by NFU mutual concluded Livestock theft costs rose 3% to £3.4m within 2024 in rural areas, so their is clearly a growing issues of this type of crime in this area.

To conclude, on average crime is more prevalent in urban areas this is because their are more people, more poverty and more opportunity to commit crime.
