My biggest circle of influence has to be my family; my family has the biggest influence on my decisions and the things I do. My family is very supportive of me and usually agrees with most things I do, and the few times they don't, there is usually a good reason for it. I always go to my family when I have a problem, whether it's to my parents, siblings, or cousins. I also play a big part in influencing my family.

Over the years, I would definitely say there has been a change of influence. I became closer to my cousins and such, and look to only a few very close friends rather than always being involved in big friend groups. As for me, I think I still have a pretty big influence on my friends as I do my family. Everything else has been more or less the same.

Emotions

The first feeling/emotion I picked is sonder. I picked this feeling because I feel that I resonate with it a lot. Sonder is the realization that all the people around you are also going through things in their lives as complex as yours, and even more. I picked this picture for it because I feel that this is a really good example, you get to see all these people in their apartments, but they all have a different life and different stories, and you can see a glimpse of that as you're people watching.

The second feeling I picked is anxiety. I picked this because I often catch myself feeling anxious in many situations. I think this picture is a good representation of anxiety because when you're anxious, you feel very distraught, very confused, you're not very sure what to think, what to say, and it's almost like you feel like you're stuck in your own thoughts, almost feeling trapped.

The last feeling I picked is nostalgia. I picked this because one of the biggest things that takes up time in my mind is nostalgia. You will always catch me thinking back about a previous time, event, person, etc. I'll always spend time thinking about the past events and not let myself enjoy the present times. I think this picture does a good job capturing the feeling because the sun during this time is very bright, but also very warm and comforting, which reminds me of the feeling of nostalgia.

Pictures:

https://pin.it/1WDzC9Eef

https://pin.it/6p2p6DqLp

https://pin.it/hLHjRkaAm

Claim: I think exercise is something that one should do daily.

a. It is good to stay fit.

b. It has lots of long-term benefits.

c. It keeps you happy.

d. It gives you more energy.

Ranking: B, A, D, C

I believe that exercise is something that one should do every day because of all the benefits it has. Along with the physical benefits such as staying fit, preventing sickness/diseases/etc, there are many other benefits. When I exercise, I always feel a lot more energized and motivated to do other work, and my overall mood gets boosted. When I don't exercise at least once a day, I feel very groggy and upset, and see an instant boost when I do. Overall, exercising at least once a day is very beneficial, even if it's just walking, going on a jog, or going to the gym.

Source:

https://www.mayoclinic.org/healthy-lifestyle/fitness/in-depth/exercise/art-20048389

Notes during walk:

A bit chilly but it was sunny out

A lot of cars were driving by near the entrance since there's a highway

it was a lot windier here than near my house

People walking, biking, running, relaxing.

Groups of people were having picnics and talking

Towards the water I also noticed people fishing

The deeper you walk in the quieter it gets

a few signs some labeled restricted area

some graffiti on the rocks

lots of grass area deeper you go

houses and old buildings

historical signs saying military used to live there

dog park lot of dogs running around having fun

Lots of stone architecture

once a military base

overall very clean and well kept

According to springay and trumans idea where walking helps me know through the body I really felt it when I was walking through here and saw the different circumstances all come into one.

also according to their theory human experience is about more than just living elements for me it was the climate, the architecture, the way the park was structured, etc.

A. Its a big park with a lot of historical value and open area for people to enjoy, there are a lot of social interactions here but also many quiet reflective interactions, people are overall pretty respective of rules and norms here.

B. There doesn't seem to be a limit to who may be here, but if you keep going deeper, there are sections reserved for military training. There's a good amount of patrol and safety coming in and out of the park.

C. I always used to come to fort totten with my family for walks and to sit on the rocks. I'd also come ride my bike ride here, but today I got to really just be aware of everything and truly feel all the parts of this place.

Reflection:

Walking through Fort Totten and really observing my surroundings helped me learn so much more. While it was also very relaxing for me after a long day at school, it was really educational as well. After reading about Springgay and Truman's ideas, I realized how important walking really is and incorporated their ideas throughout my walk. During my walk, I was really present and observant rather than just ignoring the little things in my path. I learned more about the history behind Fort Totten, how it was a military base, parts are still used for training, etc. I see how it changed from such a structured place to an open area for all for recreational services, and how much people enjoy their leisure time there. I also really noticed how much I learned just through my body, just from feeling relaxed and being present. Overall, I learned a lot through my walk. I've learned more during this walk than I have over all the times I've gone over the years.

Theory connections:

We learn through our bodies the extra breeze, the smell of saltwater, the fresh air, the different textures, grass stone, etc.

Walking as a reflection, during the wallk I had a lot of time to reflect so I was able to reflect on what I was seeing as well as all the things happening around me

With space not being neutral I was able to think about the times that this place wasn't open to everyone and how inclusive it is now.

The little things in life are important, you don't always have to think big or reach for the stars its okay to just be yourself and do what makes you happy. Ruhi Rahman is 18 years old attending St. Johns University as a legal studies major hoping to become an attorney as she "enjoys giving advice and appreciates when people take it". She lives a simple yet fulfilling lifestyle making sure to start the day right because "if you look good, you feel good", always thoughtful of those around her and keeping her closest friends close. Her passions include living life to the fullest, traveling, achieving success, and, above all, being able to support her parents. As a child of immigrants, I feel the pressure riding on my future and hold my parents very close to me, as they gave everything for me to succeed in life. While living a very simple lifestyle, she hopes to give her parents all they could ever dream of one day. It's important to remember your roots, to show appreciation and gratefulness to where you grew from, as we often overlook the little things in life.

My map is a visual representation of how far I’ve come over my time here at St. John’s. I started off the semester scared and nervous about how things might go as you’ll see you in the haunted beginnings location. As I made my way through there was a lot of relapses in certain directions and a lot of going back and forth to see how things work best. Over time I’ve made myself a better routine and have managed to understand myself better and strategize to make everything as efficient as possible. In the map you’ll see the pink line showing where I started and where I’ve gone through this includes exams, procrastination, extracurriculars, work, having fun, the whole college experience. You can see that the pink line representing my path didn’t make it through the places as a straight line since it took me a lot of time and working around to make it through. You’ll also notice an undiscovered part much like in games when there’s a part of the map that you have not unlocked yet the same goes for me and my time at St.Johns and all the things I have yet to discover.
