If we do not teach about the past, history is doomed to repeat itself. I don't think that the intention of CRT is to accuse anyone of being racist, but to explain what has happened before and to open our eyes so we don't have the same things continue to happen. Our country is so divided and it seems to only be getting worse, and education is really the only thing that seems to stand a chance to helping bridge the gap between all of us. I understand the concern of parents who believe that CRT is painting this picture that their children are racists because they are caucasian, but I think that if they really sat down and were made to understand that the whole point is to teach about all parts of our nation's past - not just the idea that Jim Crow laws meant we couldn't drink from the same fountains, but that people were killed in the Tulsa Massacre simply because of their skin color. Which basically means that, everything eventually leads back to racism. No matter how much time passes, racism is still a major problem in today's society and will sadly continue. CRT is about questioning how our educational system can best offer education to all people which as educators is the most important part of teaching, children these days should still be taught all of these things from the past because these things are still going on in the background of todays society. I personally do not think that critical race theory should be part of the curriculum in schools. Our nation now and back in the past are completely different form one another. I do not think we need to forget about what happened, I do think that students need to be taught about slavery and how everything was segregated and all of those things you typically learn in a social studies class however I think that CRT is just making us relive the past. I think if we push this theory on students than it will just end up reliving itself. Also an opinion of mine is that we are suppose to teach all types of racism between all races however CRT has made it seem like mostly whites are the racist. It is a privilege I believe to not think that CRT is not important in a classroom it comes from a standpoint that because race does not affect you( ie: those who are white) it is not necessary. The unfortunate truth is Black and brown children will not get a choice on understanding racism it will happen to them racism will be a part of their life and they will be forced to understand the concept from prison to school pipeline to learning to not wear a hoodie/ look suspicious/ or stick your hands in your pocket when you walk into a grocery store or down the street. To think that racism in America is even an ounce of getting better is to be naive and blind to the world in my opinion. Because black people are not being sold we think racism is better but the system built to oppress People of color still holds a firm hold down to our social justice system to food insecurity, war on drugs, and school to prison pipeline. A country built off of oppression can not think that by not properly addressing that hatred and trauma will ever have a chance of being anything better. I think that is how you repeat history or more like continuing history.  CRT address these issues and it is needed in the classroom because this is real life and I think just because some people may not like the narrative or because the conversation is uncomfortable to have does not negate the fact as future teachers we will have a wide variety of students from different backgrounds in our classroom and we should be prepared for the real world classroom issues. Racism doesn't just stop because it makes someone uncomfortable or because we enter the classroom and don't think the concept should be there. Not the mention that the way out history is even taught in the classroom has been censored to demonize the true trauma. Racism is a huge problem and I do feel that people should have a voice and be heard about it. However, I am concerned that teaching students that we are a racist society will continue to produce students that divide themselves. I fully support the accurate teaching of our history, and I have heard that it is said that nations that do not accept their past and acknowledge it will continue to repeat it. I believe that too much CRT can cause students to adopt that way of thinking and limit their ability to form their own perspective of society. If only there was a way that we could allow everyone to be heard and respected without creating further division. After reading up on it on articles, websites and more. I feel that it is a necessary need for educators and parents to teach children when they come of age what it is and what does it mean. I also feel like this shouldn't even exist because it's sad to know that not everyone is treated equal. Also to point out a lot of people can't even do their job correctly and serve justice appropriately without some dumb person saying "oh your only doing this/saying that because I'm white/black/etc." Thats so stupid that this still goes on in society. Why can't everyone grow up and start waking up and seeing that we are all the same, a color is just a color. Here's a scary thought but a great example, say we didn't have skin at all, no color to depict from, just what's under our skin shows.....do you think that people would treat others as different as they do today? Teaching children about discrimination and segregation that people in the past have endured will show and teach children how others were treated. If we do not teach this, then history will repeat itself. I feel now more than ever we need to teach this. Children need to know what happened. Children need to know about segregation, discrimination, and the divide of social injustice, and about socioeconomics. I fear that if critical race theory is not taught in schools that children will not know that we used to be divided, how unfair the times were back then. We still are divided. There is still racism. We need to stand together and come together to lift each other up and not tear each other down. We need to build on our perspectives and work together to become equals. We are all equal and all deserve the same opportunities as each other. We are so divided now I feel that showing what happened in the past can open people's eye to see how hard and difficult those times were that we do not have to treat anyone different because of the color of their skin. It should not matter what the color of your skin is everyone should have the same opportunities and be treated equally. I can see how teaching Critical Race Theory in school could be a controversial thing but if we don’t do something to try to make a change, how will it ever change? It will also allow those students in other environments to see what African American had to go through and still go through in the education field. I have been in both environments and the schools here in Onslow County seem to have text books that are brand new and not used, the education systems seems to be better than ours back in Maryland. I'm from the parts of Maryland that bored DC and are majority black. I feel like I grew up learning history from one perspective that glazed over issues like racism. I feel like this is an outdated and ineffective way of teaching and something should be done. The United States is a place with many historic and present issues that affect people of many different races, cultures, sexualities, etc. In this reality, it is imperative that there are authentic and accurate narratives being told in classrooms, as the video suggested. I do agree that it could be difficult for teachers to expand on coursework in a way that would satisfy every viewpoint, but I do think an effort needs to be made. I did not learn from an accurate account of many horrific historical events until I got to high school, and even then it was only because I attended a private institution that could afford to take such liberties with their curriculum. Without an understanding of these events, I could not fully understand the upset and pain that is still going on today.
