When thinking about the topic before reading, I immediately thought of the fun aspect. While sharing literature with children is fun for both parties, this is just the surface of the reasons behind it.

There are many factors that go into the evaluation of a picture book, and the decision on which ones to buy. You must think about whether your book is going into the circulation, in a classroom, or will it be a book that only you will be personally handling. Even if it is a book that only you will be handling, you need to think about the way the book is made. From how the cover looks to the gutter on the inside. When thinking about how to choose a picture book, I originally thought about the content of the text. I now know the depth to which a picture book, or any book, needs to be evaluated with.

Personally I never liked poetry, and I believe it was for the exact reasons stated in the Poetry Part 1 video. Half the time we read poems that are so complex and are trying to analyze every inch of it that we loose the point of reading poetry. My number one take away from this chapter was that I don't always have to read poetry to students strictly for analyzing and content. Poetry isn't a genre to be taught in isolation. Poetry needs to be read often and mostly for pure enjoyment. I also now believe that interactive poems aren't just for the lower grades. I think that interactive poems can teach students to not be afraid of poetry and actually embrace it. There are so many books that I didn't actually realize were considered poetry. For example, I didn't know Alice and Wonderland was considered poetry. I also learned about the Lee Bennett Hopkins that recognizes the poet of the most outstanding children's poetry of the year.

I want to share with teachers blogs, webinars, and reviews on a variety of graphic novels, not only from the classroom but for themselves.
