Module 1: Managers

Managers are responsible for getting work done through others. We typically describe the key managerial functions as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. The definitions for each of these have evolved over time, just as the nature of managing in general has evolved over time. This evolution is best seen in the gradual transition from the traditional hierarchical relationship between managers and employees, to a climate characterized better as an upside-down pyramid, where top executives support middle managers and they, in turn, support the employees who innovate and fulfill the needs of customers and clients. Through all four managerial functions, the work of managers ranges across 10 roles, from figurehead to negotiator. While actual managerial work can seem challenging, the skills you gain through principles of management—consisting of the functions of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling—will help you to meet these challenges.

Do you believe diversity in the workplace is important? How does culture play a role in the workplace? Do you believe culture is important?

I do believe diversity in the workplace is important. When talking about diversity, we often think of race and culture. Usually when speaking about race, culture, and diversity of ethnicity are key aspect. Diversity in the workplace means respecting and valuing the skills and differences that each staff members brings into the workplace. Diversity in the workplace, also means the acceptance and involvement of employees of all backgrounds. No matter what your disability, religion, race, age, or gender is, it gives everyone the opportunity to bring individual strengths, ideas, and the potential they bring to the workplace.

Culture is the habitat that surrounds us all the time. In the workplace, culture is made up of life experience. Culture in the workplace is the behavior that results when a group arrives at a set of, rules that are generally unspoken and unwritten rules for working together. Workplace culture is the operationalizing of an organization's values. It helps guides the employee decisions on their technical needs and plans, and how employees interact with others. Yes I believe that culture is important, if employees appears disgruntled and productivity decreases, it may be necessary to decompress the culture by taking steps such as relaxing the dress code or creating a more fun element.

In my opinion, a proposed leader must have specific qualities that suit his or her ability to lead an organization or department. It is important to know yourself and to know your employees, give a long-term orientation, take care of a good ambience in the workplace. The most valuable traits of a leader are: Initiatives, Enthusiasm, Judgement, Justice, Knowledge, priority setting, and creative thinking.
The trait that is most important for leaders to me is influence. If a leader can stay positive and empower their subordinates with a sense of ownership will make employees feel like they are genuinely part of a team.
