He was an extremely talented and gifted artist known for his highly detailed and exquisite self-portraits, his first, created at the age of 13.  He was trained in the crafts of his father a goldsmith where his skill in drawing became evident. He was deeply influenced by the fear in the minds of the people at that time - that the end of the world was coming, and much of his artwork takes those fears and memorializes them, as well as portraying the Christian beliefs of Christ.  Although he had much talent, ambition and intellect he was known for the melancholia that he portrayed in his artwork noticeably is his own self portraits.  He was highly influenced by humanism that was prominent in the Golden age of the Renaissance period.  He saw the beauty and possibility in mankind.  Besides being deeply enthralled with the beauty of the nude human form he also turned much of his attention to his own humanism he had a high estimation of his own self worth which is showcased in his many self-portraits.  Many of his self portraits were done completely different from portraits at that time which were normally a 3/4 pose but Durer painted himself symmetrically, front and center, similar to icons such as Christ putting his own importance and the humanism influence of the importance of man at the forefront. Throughout his career Durer and his fascination with his own personification was the center of his legacy.  His reach in art was vast as can be seen in the variety of his subjects:   portraits, nature both animals and scenery, Biblical portrayals, nudes, and many more.  He employed many different forms of art including:  pen and ink, sketches, engravings, wood cut, watercolor, oil and  pastels, and many more.  He also wrote and illustrated books on art and the beauty of the human form as well as capitalizing on the apocalyptic fear that was prominent in his time.  He wanted to be famous and was the first artist to ensure that all of his art was monogrammed so that whoever viewed it knew whose vision and creation it was.  Durer is famous  for revolutionizing the printing industry making 1000's of prints of his art available worldwide.  ]]> 2018-07-05 20:08:59 UTC https://padlet.com/happyelephant73/Albrecht_Durer/wish/269502594 happyelephant73 https://padlet.com/happyelephant73/Albrecht_Durer/wish/269504326 Self-portrait at age 28.
