My name is Kirey Maryam Walangitan , or you can call me Rei!

I’m from the School of Humanities, studying English Language and Literature Studies. (Year 2)

I joined this theatre course because I love theatre! Being on stage and acting is my identity and passion. I’ve been acting atively on stage during my 3 years of high school back in HK and the thrill of roleplaying as different characters had never died inside of me. So, joining this course is vital for me to improve my skills as an actor since I believe there is lots of practice in university level theatre class.

My hope of enrolling in this course is to make friends and hold memorable connection on stage together. Acting to me is not only to find one’s potential too, but to also be able to connect with members and the audience.

As an aspiring actress, my idol is Emma Stone and Tony Stark. Emma’s quirky yet bubbly personality shines through her character- she makes the character as if it was her own. Her acting in La La Land really captured my attention even though I had seen her previously in Spiderman and Zombieland. In that movie, I really resonate with her as the character she played was aiming to be a famous actor. Tony Stark, like Emma- really ‘owns’ the character he plays in. Both are my idols in the acting world!

Sejujurnya tujuan saya menghadiri kursus ini adalah untuk melengkapkan unit memandangkan saya pelajar tahun akhir. Walau bagaimanapun, saya berminat juga dengan teater dan pernah melibatkan diri semasa matriks dahulu.

Started off our first meeting of WCC117 with the introduction by En. Halimi of this course and all of the coursework involved. Further details of the short-film assignment were explained thoroughly. We were also introduced to two big sisters that will take care of us for this whole sem, Kak Ihah and Kak Iz. We were taught of the ‘body-prep’ and vocal exercise. We also did the tongue and chewing-gum exercise. It is vital to do when we have classes to ensure that all of us are using the correct technique of breathing because this will help a lot to deliver clear words through our mouth. Had an ice-breaking too and I get to know a lot of new people. Before class ended, we played a Copycat game where you need to copy the particular person that you wanted to and it was done within a big circle.

 

5/3/2020

I was quite nervous to start our 2^nd class as I didn’t know what to expect but I had fun!! :) At first, we played badminton (except for the racket and shuttlecock were invisible). This was to test our focus. After that, body-prep session was conducted by Amirul, our class rep. Lisa took over Amirul spot to conduct the vocal and tongue exercise. It was then the turn of a group to present a game! We enjoyed the Idol Reflection so much. Another game was the reflection too but using words instead of producing action. Leaders needed to come out with any words and the rest of the group needed to mention things that are related to the words given. Kak Ihah and Kak Iz taught us to play the Bing Bang Boom game too and reminded us to not forget about the tix to watch the Red Velvet theatre. Before class ended, Kak Ihah and Kak Iz also reminded us to write this review in padlet. Thankyou Kak Ihah and Kak Iz for helping us a lot in this course :)

 

Saya mengambil kursus ini disebabkan hanya kursus ini yang mempunyai kekosangan dan saya ingin melengkapkan unit Ko-K pada semester ini juga. Saya juga berfikir saya patut mengambil kursus yang saya tidak pernah lakukan sebelum ini sebagai cabaran untuk diri saya.

Saya berharap kursus ini dapat memberi peluang kepada saya untuk mengasah bakat lakonan, meningkatkan komunikasi yang baikterhadap rakan-rakan dan mendapat lebih banyak kenalan baharu. Saya juga berharap kursus teater moden ini dapat meningkatkan keyakinan dalam diri saya untuk berdiri di atas pentas dan bercakap di khalayak orang ramai.

Watak idola saya ialah Angelina Jolie yang membawa watak Maleficent dalam Maleficent 1 dan 2. Beliau berjaya membawa watak sebagai perempuan jahat yang mempunyai hati yang baik dan berjaya membuat penonton mengalir air mata disebabkan watak keibuannya.

Pada perjumpaan kali pertama ini, Encik Halimi memperkenalkan dirinya sendiri dan dua orang kakak iaitu Kak Iha dan Kak Iz yang juga akan membimbing kami sepanjang kursus teater moden ini. Encik Halimi juga memberi penerangan tentang kursus ini dan menceritakan beberapa tugasan yang perlu kami selesaikan untuk mendapat markah. 

5 Mac 2020

1. Kami memulakan perjumpaan kali kedua ini dengan membuat aksi bermain badminton tanpa memegang raket. Permainan ini mengajar kami untuk berinteraksi sesama rakan-rakan dan menimbulkan emosi sebenar semasa bermain badminton di atas gelanggang yang sebenar. 

2. Warm up                                   
 Warm up badan yang diketuai oleh Amirul. Warm up badan ini perlu dilakukan setiap kali perjumpaan supaya tidak cramp selepas melakukan banyak aktiviti. Warm up vocal diketuai oleh Alissa. Warm up vocal ini perlu dimulakan dengan bernafas menggunakan perut. Pada mulanya, agak sukar bagi saya untuk melalukan ini, tetapi selepas dibantu oleh rakan-rakan dan Kak Iz saya dapat melakukan dengan mudahnya.

3. Kami bermain permainan refleksi yang dipimpin oleh kumpulan Shim iaitu kami perlu melakukan aksi secara serentak berdasarkan watak artis terkenal yang diberikan oleh kumpulan mereka. Permainan ini ingin menunjukan keseragaman antara kami.

4. Kami juga bermain permainan refleksi iaitu kami perlu membuat dua barisan dan setiap barisan perlu mempunyai seorang ketua yang akan memberi satu perkataan. Kami perlu menyebut perkataan yang mempunya kaitan dengan perkataan yang disebut oleh ketua tersebut. Permainan ini menguji kita untuk berfikir dengan cepat.

5. Permainan terakhir ialah bim bang bom. Contohnya, orang yg ditunjuk “bim” akan menunjuk pulak orang seterusnya sambil menyebut “bang”. Permainan ini menguji daya fokus kita.

6. Kak Iz menyampaikan maklumat yang diberikan oleh Encik Halimi dan mengambil kedatangan kami.

Saya enjoy every games dan dapat kenalan baru!

-My first day of theatre!! I was so excited!!
-When I came into the auditorium everyone was sitting in a circle. Then I talk a bit to someone I have met before, and then the class started with Sir Halimi. He called out some of the students name and asked us to access the padlet for this Ko-K. He also explained the course outline and what we need to do to pass, and he says everyone can get an A if we do it right. 
-There is Kak iz and Kak Iha who were going to lead our classes for the whole course semester. They were really friendly!
-We then sat around in a big circle and were asked to introduce ourselves.Our conductors also advised us to use comfortable outfits and take off accessories ,so that we won’t trample on them.
-We started the course with warm up exercise for every theatre session we’re going to have in the future.It also included doing breathing control, and ‘a e i o u’ voice exercise.
-We also tried to act out chewing gum in our mouths, it was so funny! Aside from that, we also trained our tongue to draw out our names. It was so that we get more flexible to move around!
-Lastly, we played a game called copycat although we were confused, and we end up making lots of funny poses!
-At the end we did attendance, and tried finding groups for the video and game. I have yet to find a group for the game, and that was the end of today’s session!

[5 March]

-Although I was really excited again for the 2nd meeting, I was so nervous because I didn’t really know anyone yet. 
-We started off with the usual warm up exercise led by one of our classmate Amirul, and the breathing vocal exercise by Lisa. 
-Then, we start off with a game of acting out to play badminton. It was really fun!! Though I didn’t see a partner whom I should hit the ball to, I did so much jumping! Apparently, it was to test our focus.
-One of our game groups came up to do a game called reflection, which we tried to act out the characters they mention. Haha, I enjoyed acting them out- especially Bruce Lee, he is super cool!
-The next game conducted by Kak Iz and Kak Iha was also about reflection, but we stood in two lines and were supposed to act out when we got the turn to. Each one of it is a different act, and once we finished our act we ran back to the end of the line- and repeat!
-Then we played another game called bing bang boom! I really liked this one, because it tested not only our focusing skills but also our ability to be fast! Woo!! We did it in a group of five!
-Lastly, Kak Iz did attendance and we had to say Aye aye captain! We had a session where we discussed and reflected what we did in class. I asked about the padlet thing, which I wasn’t sure about before. Then, we talked about where to buy the tickets, and Amirul suggested that each leader from the video group can collect the money. Which is a brilliant idea, hey! Anyway, there was also a change in dates for video shooting which will be on 23&26 March instead of 16&19 March. 
That was all!

Before attend this class, I am worried because it seems need to express ourselves and I am a shy person. But after attend the first class,  I think it will be fun in attending this course and may be I can learn how to express myself.

My idol is Yonezu Kenshi, a multi-talented person. He is a singer and composer, he also become his own artist and dancer in his artwork. 

Encik Halimi starts with simple introduction about this ko k. We were introduced to Kak Teha and Kak Izz. They brief and teach us about vocal exercise, basic body warmup, tongue exercises and breathing exercises before begin any activity. It was a new and fresh experience for me

Today, we play badminton game and it is such a good exercise for my body and arms. We also can get to know our partner's intention by look at their eyes and expression. Next, one group volunteered to initiate the first game which we need to imitate some idols by doing their signature poses. Lastly, Kak Teha and Kak Izz assisted our short film progression.

Today we were told to lay down while doing vocal and breathing exercises. a new thing i must say. For tongue exercise, we need to introduce ourselves by fully using our jaws. Tw groups were doing their games today. First, we played quick witted game and i learned that we need to be alert of surrounding. the second game is human knot. It teaches us about teamwork.
