How Much Power Will Alert Generate In a Year

For the 7 months alert gets sunlight it generate 1,155 kilowatts of energy per meter squared. That is only 500 kilowatts less on average then the sunniest place year round, Yuma Arizona which generates around 1600 kilowatts per meter squared. 1155 kilowatts is around 1.155 megawatts which is roughly enough power to power up 1000 Homes.

Now your probably wondering if Alert is on an island up near the north pole with little inhabitants how are you going to transfer energy to cities that need it. According to most scientists electricity can travel up to 4300 miles thats the distance from Alert to Cancun Mexico. And submarine power cables can be used to transfer the energy underwater to many different cities, such as Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Ottawa, Oslo, London, Boston, Madrid and even Miami.

Toronto consumes 4907 megawatts of electricity in a year. So if a company sets up 5000 solar panels in Ellesmere Island which is huge that collects enough energy to power the biggest city in canada, which means it could power up any city in canada.

Solar Farms typically cost 500,000 grand per acre, which is alot but with the revenue of powering up Canadas largest city it would definitely be doable, also submarine power cable technology has increased in the past years and is getting cheaper, therefore if the canadian government or government of another country were to fund this it could easily be done.

In the end I believe Alert would be a great place for solar farming and i believe the canadian government should definitely look into the abundance of land they have up near the poles and use them to stop fossil fuels and help our earth continue to thrive.
