         <title>Battle of Marathon </title>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>The battle of marathon started in 490BCE when the Persians struck back against the Greeks (Athenians and Plataea's) with large forces the Greeks where out numbered. But surprisingly, the Greeks defeated the Persian force in the doing so the captured seven ships. The Greeks explained the victory as an outcome of their strong nationalism. Thebattle of Marathon was Persians first attempt to takeover Greece and get their revenge but it didn't work.</div>]]></description>

It all begun in 500BCE when Persia was trying to broaden it's empire, they decided to start with the land and area occupied by the Ionians. The Ionians didn't like being controlled by Persia and wanted their land back. The Ionians revolted, Greece sided with the Ionians and the Persian war began. </div>]]></description>

Athens was a mountainous land, the Athenians where a political city state and community simple life was the way of living in Athens it was very peaceful compared to Sparta. Athens is home also to a very famous building the acropolis which is built on the highest point of Athens.</div>]]></description>

The Greeks divided them self's into these four major tribes during the ancient period. Ionia was located on the coastline of modern day Turkey. The Ionians even had their own language. Ionians where well known for their love of philosophy, art, democracy, and pleasure.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>This battle marks the importance of the battles fought on land and at sea. The Persian forces had navies and armies. The naval forces of the Persians estimated at 800 to Greece's 271, the Persian army were astonishing and better skilled than the Greeks with the Persian forces at Thermopylae estimated at 70,000 but ancient historians claim it was as high as 2,600,000. That is very high compared to the very small 5,200 to 11,200 Greeks against them. With the Persian advantage the Persians won both wars.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>Started in August 479BCE<br>after the Salamis war even though the Greeks won the Salamis war the whole battle was not over yet. Even though Persia had lost the salamis battle they still had a large enough army to fight back against the Greek city states. The odds where yet still in favour of the Persian modern historians estimating that it was 80,000 Greeks versus 70,000 to 120,000 Persians. By the time the battle had concluded and the Greeks had won the  Persian's had lost  a lot of land and area they had owned and conquered losing control of both Attica and Boeotia.</div>]]></description>
