Who's Talking? Point of View by April

Each group has a card with a name of a character on it and a page number from the book Ramona age 8. Your group's job is to use first person narrative to re write what is happening from the point of view of the character on your card. Make sure you do not write the character's name. Afterward we will determine who is talking.

Today I told my class they would be doing something new in reading. I explained that they would be doing Sustained Silent Reading every day. I told them I didn't like using the words Sustained Silent Reading. I wrote D.E.A.R on the board and then asked them to guess what it meant. I laughed to myself because of their silly answers. The little boy who likes to pick on Ramona said, "Don't eat a reader." What really made me laugh was Ramona. She bursted out saying "Drop everything and run!" I had to remind her we were talking about reading!

Today in class Mrs. Whaley told us we were going to be doing Sustained Silent Reading. She then changed her mind as teacher always do and called it D. E. A. R. She asked everyone to guess what D.E.A.R meant but I just stared out the window looking at Mt. Hood. I was thinking it looked liked a giant licked ice-cream cone. While I was daydreaming I yelled out, Drop everything and run! My cool teacher didn't even yell at me for not raising my hand, she just laughed and told me I was almost right.

The teacher today told us we would be reading silently at our desks everyday. I just knew there would be book reports to go with it but she told us not book reports. She even said we could read whatever we wanted! She called this reading time Sustained Silent Reading. To me that was so long and boring. She then wrote on the blackboard D.E.A.R. She wanted us to guess what it meant. I decided to get the class to laugh so I said Don't Eat a Reader. I was surprised that Mrs. Whaley laughed too.

I was sitting in class today thinking about the part of my day that I hated the most. I hated going to Mrs. Kemp's house after school because I would have to play with Willa Jean. My teacher started talking about something that sounded important. She said we would be doing Silent Sustained Reading everyday. I didn't know what that was but it sounded really really important. She then said she didn't think Silent Sustained Reading sounded interesting so she wrote D.E.A.R on the blackboard. She asked us to guess what the letters meant. I got started daydreaming looking at Mt. Hood thinking it was a licked ice-cream cone. I yelled out Drop everything and run! Mrs. Whaley is such a nice teacher she didn't get mad that I didn't raise my hand. She just laughed and said to remember we are talking about reading. I think I like her.
