1. This law was enacted in 1970.

2. This law was to ensure workers of workplace safety, their goal was to make sure employers provided a safe workplace for their employee's.

3. What led to this law being enacted was many places weren't safe to work in, many people were dying or getting injured.

4. This law applies to most private sector employers & their employee's in the 50 states and people who are employed. This law does not apply to the unemployed

5. This law may apply to Maria since she was farm worker, so she was inhaling toxic smells etc. but then again it was probably an under the table job so that's why they didn't really take precaution.

6. They same way it applied to Maria is the same way it would apply to me, not as much. Regardless of the age, you signed up for an under the table job that probably isn't legit, so you can't have high expectations.

-When was the law enacted?
It was enacted on 6/25/1938

-What does the law do?
The Fair Labor Standards Act establishes minimum wage, overtime pay, recordkeeping, and youth employment standards affecting employees that work in the private sector and in Federal, State, and local governments. Covered nonexempt workers are entitled to a minimum wage of nothing less than $7.25 per hour effective July 24, 2009. Overtime pays at a rate not lower than one and one-half times the regular rate of pay and is required after 40 hours (about 1 and a half days) of work in a workweek.

-What led to its being enacted?
The Fair Labor Standards Act was enacted because it was common for workers to experience terrible working environments, so it was enacted to protect workers from abuse.

- To whom does the law apply? To whom does it not apply?
These laws apply to employees in private sectors and that are in Federal, State, and local government. The laws do not apply to employees in executive or administrative positions.

- How does/doesn't the law apply to Maria?
Maria is in a terrible working environment where she gets headaches from breathing in all the pesticides and she gets backaches from all the work she has to do to hope to get adequate pay. They also told her that she would not be getting paid anymore. The law also doesn’t apply to Maria since she makes below the minimum wage.

-How would/wouldn't the law apply to you-at your age-if you were working alongside Maria?
The law would apply to me if I worked alongside Maria because I’m a minor and by law they must pay me for the hours I worked.

What does the law do?
This law protects the rights of its employees and employers, encourages collective bargaining, and to curtail certain private sector labor and management practices, which can harm the general welfare of workers, businesses and the U.S. economy.
6.) How would this affect you if you worked alongside Maria?
Because Maria isn't legal, she might not speak up if this act is violated.

The family and medical leave act was enacted in 1993. The law basically allows for anyone to take a 12 unpaid workweek without fear or losing their job in a 12 month period if they have given birth to a baby, adopted or are fostering a child, or if the employees spouse, child, parent, or self has a health condition making it unable for the employee to work. This law in particular does not exactly fit for Marias situation because yes she has kids but her kids are not new born baby's who require full attention and she hasn't adopted or fostered any new children.
