Slovenian Radio Building review

The Slovak Radio Building is located in the heart of Bratislava and has gained worldwide attention for its’s extraordinary shape which resembles an inverted pyramid. This gravity defying urban construction was designed by Štefan Svetko, Štefan Ďurkovič and Barnabáš Kissling and completed in 1983. This multipurpose building contains Radio broadcasting facilities and also a large concert hall. The height of the building is 80 meters.

It is an undeniable fact that the building differs from the general street image. And that it’s construction has required an immense amount of professional skill but despite the effort it’s architectural presence doesn’t convince. Neither does the building appear fresh or beautifully balanced but more of a forced monument that seeks for attention. It’s difficult to define a specific genre that the building represents, which arises a question of whether the building falls to the category of postmodernism or constructivism.

At its best architecture creates a good and innovative environment. This building leaves behind a controversial feeling. Even though the building defies gravity with it’s pure existence it can’t redefine the concept of architecture, this building fails at its attempt in trying to divert the common understanding of urban design.

In the past few years I have became very intrested in the cosmos and all it´s marvelous secrets and phenomena. It has even became more then that. It has developed to be my passion and now that I am in high school I have decided that I want to be an astrophysicist and pursue my passion.

I understand that when you were younger you admired very much a man called Carl Sagan who inspired you to be where you are now. Well I just want to say that you are to me as Carl Sagan was to you when you were younger. I respect you indescribably much for how you have influenced my life and inspired me without even meeting me in person once. To be honest without you I most likely would have not probably never became familiar with spaces wonders. You taught to me what you have most likely done already to thousands which is that science can be cool and wonderful.

Watching your radio show, talk shows where you have appeared and panels you have been a part of have brought delight to my days just by listening to your wise words. I wanted to give you recognition for what you have done on behalf of everybody and just to say thank you.

With respect Teemu Viitanen, Finland

La La Land review-a movie about song, dance and a romance

Director: Damien Chazelle; Starring: Emma Stone, Ryan Gosling, John Legend, Josh Pence, Finn Wittrock, JK Simmons.
La La Land is a nostalgic musical that takes you back to the 1960s. La La Land isn’t just an ordinary musical but it’s a beautifully crafted soaring kind ode and they’ll let you know that this indeed isn’t an ordinary musical as soon as the movie starts with a scene that lasts for 6 minutes in the Los Angeles highway.
Behind all the movies dance and jazz lurks a crisply written romance that revolves around the two main characters. Sebastian a passionate jazz pianist with an ambition to open a jazz club and Mia a gifted actress who’s chasing a permanent role desperately by jumping from audition to another. Both living a living of chaos until they stumble to on another.
Like the scene in the beginning that you’ll see the movie flourishes with scenes from which you just have to give credit to the young and talented director Damien Chazelle because of how beautifully and artistically the scenes have been executed and filmed to tiny bittiest detail.
After you have watched the film I believe that every single person who leaves the theater will walk home with a little waltz in their feet and a mind fulfilled with a nostalgia of 1960s romance.

I'd give 95 points from the overall portfolio just because it is the avarage score from my all portfoloi tasks.
Hardest part of making the portfolio was probably finding the best and the most intresting angle to the subject. It was probalby because in English we hadn't had yet anything this challenging that we had to write about.
To the overall picture of the portfolio I am pretty pleased but there are still some rooms for improvement at least in the climate speech in my opnion and in the movie review but the task that I putted the most effort in to was the architectual negative review and of that I am especially proud of.
In the 2. period "the team course" portfolios had already became a pretty familiar thing so there really wasn't really much to learn.
I think I should improve my grammar still and also I should pay more attention to the essays as a whole rather than construct them one sentence at a time which makes it not so fluent.
