The Jim Crow Laws were mandated segregation laws that were used to diminish African Americans. They denied them the right to vote, have jobs, get a proper education and miss out on other opportunities. Those who defied the laws would be arrested, face jail time or be put to the death.

Jim Crow Laws began around 1865 after the ratification of the 13th amendment. Before the Civil War there were no written laws that discriminated the blacks and whites. Later Courts in Texas and the New Orleans required different rules for the colored.

After World War II there was an increase of African American activities in the community, which ensured them the right to vote. later on the Civil Rights movement was put into place, resulting in the removal of the Jim Crow Laws. President Harry Truman ordered integration in the military and later lead to allowing them to be in the same education.
