I would manipulate the types of "ingredients" and the amount of it, and observe how the solution reacted. Through active learning, I found out which chemicals made an explosive reaction.

My brother was curious about how fireworks interacted with grass instead of the concrete. He manipulated the scenario by aiming at the grass, and observed that the grass caught on fire. Sometimes we were allowed to discuss the story with a group, which helped me so much. Getting their perspectives on the theme of the story and what it represented help me open my mind to all the layers of the story. (vice versa)

When I was younger, we had an assignment to work in groups to build a tall structure without it falling over, using different materials. After multiple failed attempts in my group, someone came up with a brilliant strategy of having a strong foundation (revolutionary to us at the time). I started to visualize how the physics would work and popping the tail on my board. Eventually, using my thought process to figure out how to get the board off the ground, I succeeded.

When I was younger, the idea of riding a bike puzzled me. (How did it not fall, how did it balance, etc.) Instead of throwing myself into it, I thought about how the pedals would push the bike forward. My goal to learn how to hit better made the learning intentional. I easily improved and learned the techniques because of my desire to fulfill the goal.

Throughout my high school and college career, I have repeatedly made a pact with myself to make all A's in my courses. Because of this goal, I would intentionally learn the content and succeed in classes. After seeing it represented as a pizza and the slices, I understood how it worked. The real-life context of pizza slices helped me learn the concept of fractions.

During my algebra class, I had a hard time understanding the concepts of the different formulas. One day, my teacher exposed us to word problems that would make sense of the lesson in real-world situations. After that, I found the content much easier to learn, because I could compare it to a specific situation.
