Sharp Objects is about a young journalist, Camille Preaker, who returns to her childhood town to cover the murders of two preteen girls. She finds herself reacquainted with her mother and half-sister and identifying with the young victims. Leads and clues continue to lead to dead ends and Camille is forced to confront her past before she can even start to solve the present.

I enjoyed this book because it keeps you on your toes, throwing unexpected twists and turns at you on every page. This book also explores family dysfunction and mental illness through different characters. This book is directed towards an older audience but makes a great read for experienced readers.

- Tiana

The messenger is about an ordinary man called Ed, who is generally pretty much a failure in life, but then he starts getting playing cards in the mail with addresses. At these addresses, Ed discovers problems or issues with people that he needs to fix. It is a fiction/mystery.

I liked this book because it was easy to read and enjoy, the plot is very compelling and it was cool to see the small details that had been mentioned earlier in the book that seemed insignificant to come back later to play a big part in the plot. Also Marv is a lad.

The Lost Hero of Olympus is a fantasy/adventure novel written by Rick Riordan and based on a Rome and Greek mythology. A young boy has lost his memory after waking up on a school bus with two other kids who are apparently his best friends. His new home 'Camp Half-Blood' (a Greek camp) takes him in although the people look at him as though he is a roman. Himself and his best friends, Piper and Leo are set on a task to save a Greek Goddess who was held captive. On their way they meet up with many evil gods and mortals and critters, including some cyclopes, Medea, King Midas, wolves, and who knows what else. During this quest, Piper is keeping a secret about her dreams and how they seem so real. They stop on their tracks to find out what her secret was.

In my opinion, this novel is very enjoyable to read for those who love fantasy and adventure. It is a long book with many pages that include a wide variety of interesting words.

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn is about the suspected murder of Amy and her husband, Nick and his struggle to prove he is innocent. It is a parallel narrative, following both Nick and Amy's perspectives and makes the story a lot more interesting. When Amy disappears on the couples 5th anniversary, we see how all these 'coincidences' that Nick discovers starts to make him look suspiciously guilty.

I enjoyed this novel because of the use of parallel narrative and the way the novel comes together, creating lots of 'ohhh' moments. This novel is a good read for readers who enjoy crime and are experienced readers.

- Tiana

The Night Circus, by Erin Morgenstern is a beautiful fantasy novel about a boy and a girl who are in a competition of sorts to determine who is the better “magician”, though magician wouldn’t properly describe them and the phenomenons they are able to perform. They are each mentored by a different teacher to determine which way of teaching is the most effective. One of the methods of teaching is via reading and learning about magic, and the other is physically attempting this magic. The challenge takes place in a circus that only operates at night. However this is no ordinary circus as there are thousands of different tents filled with engaging and captivating acts, setups, and more. All the tents have been made by the two competitors, Celia and Marco, as part of the challenge. The circus travels all over the world and instantly captures the love and adoration of the public. It is truly a beautiful and captivating story filled with magic, imagination, detailed description and lovable, interesting characters and plots.

The language and choice of words used throughout the novel is so beautiful and so cleverly selected that it captures the reader's attention and imagination. The book uses descriptions of characters, scenes and events so vividly that you can picture exactly what is happening and how truly enchanting the whole story really is. It is such an imaginative, clever, unique story that will instantly capture the minds and imagination of anyone who reads it, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who is interested in reading a story about magic, love and imagination.
