Filipinos value community and unity between each other. The Comic Terminasian by Luna shows Filipinos in unity fighting for changes having power to themselves fighting for the same goal as a community. Ruby Ibarra's song "Us" has lines such as "Sis" and "Isang Bagsak" that show a shared identity between Filipinos. This Filipino value is Kapwa which is a shared identity with someone else. The idea of Filipino Hospitality mentioned by Nadal demonstrates community giving someone care because they are in your presence. ( ) The Manongs valued community pushing for Cesar Chavez and the Mexican farm workers to join with them showing Kapwa between the two different farming ethnicities to work together for a common goal.

Claim: Filipinos has the power the unite together and speak up for their rights.
According to Nadal in his book Filipino American Psychology, he talked about the Colonial Mentality and stereotypes that the Filipinos experienced when they immigrated to U.S. and because of this they erased the culture that they have in order to fit in with the American's values. Unlike some other Filipino Americans who immigrated to America, they still embrace the Filipino culture that they have (pg.98). In Ruby Ibarra's song "US", she stated, "Island women rise" and she repeated this a couple times. This is her telling the women to stand up and stand together against the stereotypes that they are experiencing and she is reminding women to that they have the power to speak up. Ibarra immigrated to America with her family and she is one of the Filipinos who still have their culture. In her song, it was showing a lot of values and I believe the main value that she was using was Bayanihan. They were working together as a community to get what they want and deserve. I can also relate this value to Josh Luna's cartoon of a bunch of Asian Americans standing together with signs and their fists up in the air. This picture also shows Lakas ng Loob because they have that courage inside themselves to stand up and represent all the Asian Americans.

A sense of community:
Filipinos have a strong sense of unity with their community. One of the major values in Filipino culture is kapwa, which translated roughly means fellow being. It is also represented Joshua's Terminasian where the left side of the comic show Filipinos all together fighting for something in common. It is even mentioned in "US" by Ruby Ibarra, Klassy, and Faith Santilla where one of the lyrics hints towards this idea with the lyrics in question being "Brown, brown women rise, alamin ang yung ugat, They got nothing on us. Nothing on us, nothing on us." Both sources indicate that the fillipinos have a strong sense of communtiy, even after all these years and the take over of two nations , Spain and the US, they still hold this value through out their community.

The Filipino sense of community, or bayanihan, is shaped and rooted in Filipino struggle.

- Ruby Ibarra’s “Us”
- Filipino farm workers coming together to go on the grape strikes
- Kapwa, filipino identity

Unity
Filipino history has always been intertwined with American affairs. Filipinos have to band together and find their inner strength to fight against any oppressive behavior.

-Lakas ng Loob: Inner Strength
-Bayanihan: Community
-Kapwa: Identity

-"We don’t take no shit except an oppressor’s lifeline/
If you step out of your line, I will protect what’s mine" (Ibarra, Verse 3)
-"Your DNA contains building blocks made from the mud of over 500 years of resistance and survival/
And when you are ready, sis, we’ll be right here/ " (Santilla, HOOK)

-Josh Luna illustrated the evergoing Filipino struggle throughout time against American superiority. On the right side of the panels, there was a use of repetition of the word "fire" demonstrating the authority and power held over the Filipinx community.

We Fight Together
Filipinos do not hesitate to stand up for each other when they see oppression towards their community.

-Lakas ng loob: inner strength
-Utang ng loob: debt of reciprocity
-Bayanihan: community

-"Island women rise, walang makakatigil/Brown, brown woman, rise alamin and young ugat" (Klassy, Hook)
-"Pinays have always been part, and parcel, if not, imperative and critical to the struggle/Filipinas are no strangers to wielding our own power" (Santilla, Spoken Word)

Bayanihan is shown in Josh Luna's comic, "Terminasian" when you see a crowd of Filipinos fighting against issues such as sovereignty, money, and working conditions.

"Lakas ng loob can be best demonstrated through Filipino "People Power" protests in which groups found the strength to stand up for what they believed in" (Nadal 40).
