One of my biggest fears goes hand in hand with the Digital Access Divide. There can be such a wide gap between students when it comes to access to technology, and this poses a huge problem when teachers are expected to integrate technology into their classrooms on a daily basis. Providing access to technology at school simply isn't enough anymore, because students are now also expected to have access at home.

My hopes are all centered around creating more accessible material for students, and technology plays a big role in that. Especially when it comes to Gen Alpha, because these children were raised with screens from birth. They know more about technology than I do, and this provides a great opportunity to teach in ways that we never have before.

I agree with Mary. Out of all the different fears I could have I believe the "Digital Access Divide" would be highly ranked up top due to the expectations of technology being a part of school-wide acedemics when in reality many schools and homes can't afford the technology to begin with and I feel as if it can be very confusing to some kids versus others when in the early years children don't need screens at all. There's just so many other forms of efficient learning, teaching, and growing that don't need the use of technology. Plus all the benefits of not using it in schools with little children!

My hopes within Early Education is not worrying so much about technology but worrying about what the children need to thrive and grow up happy, healthy, and well educated. Wether it is with screens or not or no matter the school I end up at I want to make sure I do my absolute best to be there for each individual student and find out what makes all of them be successful in their own ways. Also being able tp provide whatever that is like tutoring, different explanations, extra time, etc!!

My biggest fear is using the technology wrong. I don't want to hinder my students learning by using any technology that we are lucky enough to have the wrong way or by using it in a more passive way that actually doesn't benefit them. I also agree with Mary that the divide between home and school is a pretty scary problem. I think that students benefit the most when they are allowed to immerse themselves fully rather than flip flop between it.

My entire hope with technology in the classroom it to make a more immersive learning experience for the students. I want them to know that they are involved in their education and that they have options for how they can learn. I don't want them to think that learning is a one size fits all process, especially as they continue to grow. I think technology allows students to be involved, and allows all students, regardless of language to access the same materials and learn what they need to. I also hope for it to allow them to learn the importance of good research, time management and organization.

I agree with Cheney that my main fear was misusing technology. My other fear was AI breaking the classroom dynamic, and AI was briefly touched on in the Education Technology Plan, but they did not go into much detail.

A major hope that I had was that technology would help improve the classroom by making things easier and more accessible for both me and my students. This was expanded on in length, and I was glad that such an amount of thought is being put into Education Technology.

I fear that students will use technology as a way not to put full effort into their work. This goes in hand with the Digital Use Divide, since many students use technology for "passive assignment completion." Access to multiple resources and Generative AI can be a beneficial tool for students to use. However, many students use technology as a "shortcut" that eliminates critical thinking, an aspect stressed in the NETP. I also fear that teachers do not take the time to learn how to use technology in ways that allow students to use their knowledge and critical thinking to their full capacity. Some teachers may be fearful or not confident in their abilities to use technology, causing them to create simple "passive" tasks rather than ones that push students.

It is important teachers take the time to create and reflect on their technology activities. I hope that students will be excited about using technology, and do not see it as a disadvantage or burden.

I fear that students will use technology to get their work done quickly without actually learning the content. AI can be used in the wrong way like “passive assignment completion”. Doing this, students do not fully absorb or learn the material. Another fear is the “Digital Access Divide” with this growing expectation of students and schools using technology for their work certain students may not have access to using tech at home.

One of the fears I talked about in our Word Cloud Activity was that integrating technology would leave to inauthentic student work. In ELA Education specifically, we see students using a lot of generative AI to take shortcuts with their written assignments, and I think this is explained well in the passive and active use section of the National Education Technology Plan. If students are encouraged to use critical thinking skills to create rather than consume technology, I think that this will lead to more authentic student work.

One of the hopes I talked about in our Word Cloud Activity was that integrating technology would be a good tool for scaffolding students who may need extra support. I think this connects well to the section of the National Education Technology Plan that discussed the Portrait of a Learner philosophy. The idea of standards-based pedagogy is normally something I tend to disagree with, especially in ELA, but I thought this format of student evalutation was especially useful for scaffolding students. Specifically, I thought that the shift from "college-ready" to "choice-ready" was interesting, and I also enjoyed the overall goal of mastery and the opportunity for multiple attempts at an assignment.

I want to teach young children, so my fears are about the impact of technology on their skill development. One of my biggest fears is that students may not be fully developing essential skills like reading comprehension, writing skills, or spelling properly due to use of AI. While AI resources like autocorrect and ChatGPT are helpful, I worry that it might hinder the growth of these foundational skills. If students rely too heavily on technology, they may miss out on opportunities to practice and strengthen their reading and writing abilities.

One of the fears I had was that technology would become a distraction. It's so easy for student to switch over to a new tab when a teacher is looking and use the technology to play games or watch something. This is discussed in the National Education technology plan. The addresses the importance of intentional and purposeful use. Teachers want their students to stay engage but they also need to make sure the student is staying on task.

We are consistently on our phones, watching tv, playing games on the ipad, etc... that our eyes and brain need a break. There are countless studies that show learning is best with playing and using a paper and pencil, especially for younger kids.

One fear that I have about using technology is that the connections between students will be affected. As technology continues to advance, it is becoming more prominent in our lives. The younger generations are going to be surrounded by it always, so it is crucial that we keep social interaction alive rather than sitting behind a screen. Another point mentioned in the digital use divide is that students might not all be on the same level when it comes to technology. Personally, I prefer using a pencil and paper to complete assignments, so I think having a balance is very important. Using an overwhelming amount of technology in the classroom can have negative effects.

One of my biggest fears of using technology in the classroom is that it creates too much screen time for children. In previous classes I have taken we have learned about the consequences of children having so much access to technology at such a young age now and while I agree that technology is a huge help in the classroom I think it also exposes children at such a young age which effects physical and mental health. Especially with the introduction of AI, I think that students with start to rely on technology too much and if they ever don't have access after that they may be lost.

I think my major concern, or fear, in regards integrating technology is confusion and digital access. Often times I see students understanding topic being completed on different forms of integrated technology, especially when it comes to math; however, when trying to transfer the knowledge gained from online exercises into different activities student often seem like they have not practiced or been introduced to these concepts. I think this often time reflects the routine answers that technology can submit students to, rather than critical thinking methods. Also similarly to what others have shared, student access to technology in or outside of school is an issue I am somewhat worried about facing and trying to navigate how to inform students about certain technologies their fellow classmates may already be advanced on.

A fear I have is that students will use technology too often and not retain essential information throughout their education. As an early childhood education major, I am learning how harmful technology can be for children in their early years. My biggest fear would be properly incorporating technology into my lessons without making it a crutch or just using it, like the statistics in the slideshow. I want to bring technology that allows students to research and think outside the box, rather than students who use technology by taking tests and emailing faculty. I do not want technology to be a crutch for me or the students. Students can use technology to quickly finish an assignment without engaging in it, and a teacher could just play YouTube videos paired with worksheets all day. I do not want any of that in my classroom.

A fear of mine when it comes to using technology in the classroom is for students to not be able to absorb information without relying on it. Because it is now so common for children to have access to technology at home for passive use or entertainment, I'm worried that their minds will be programmed to take in all technology with the same approach, even in an educational environment. The National Education Technology Plan argues that reliance on edtech puts all of the responsibility on the content and ignores the relationships between the educators, students, and the content itself. These are all vital to student's social-emotional learning, which plays a key role in their ability to learn.

A hope of mine when it comes to integrating technology in the classroom is using it to meet students where they are. To go in with the understanding that technology is a part of their everyday life and teach them how to use it in a productive, and active way. By giving them tools to use outside of the classroom that may support what we are doing inside the classroom, even if they don't realize it. Gamification of educational content is such a great tool; if you can get your students to play content-based games as a substitution for non-educational ones at home, I would consider that a win and its something that i strive to achieve as a teacher!
