Period 3 - 23-24 Simile/Metaphor Show & Tell by Brittany Branning

Your job is to post an example of a simile/metaphor in one sentence. Tell which type of figurative language your sentence demonstrates. Explain what the simile/metaphor means. Be inspired by our class lesson's array of pop songs and their similes and metaphors. You can use a simile/metaphor from a song for this assignment. Use your independent reading book as a a resource; have you found any similes/metaphors in your reading so far this past week? Look up a famous simile/metaphor from a classic novel. Your simile/metaphor must come from a resource and not just be a sentence you make up on your own. DO NOT USE an example from the dictionary. This is a find an example search, not just look up the example assignment.

In the movie, The Lorax (one of the main characters) is telling the Once-ler (another main character)how he made a big mistake when he was younger and cut down all the beautiful, tall, soft, magical trees down and now there are no trees left. All that is left is one Truffula tree seed and if no one is dedicated and cares, the trees will never grow again and they will go completely extincted. The Lorax tells Ted that he is the whole city's last hope. This simile compares Ted and him being the last hope to revive the trees.

"Life is beautiful, Life is wonderus." Life is Beautiful by Keb Mo.

This is a metaphor. It shows that the world that we live in is beautiful and amazing. Later in the song it states things like how somewhere in the world the sun is always shining and how the stars are shining just for us. This metaphor and this song shows how amazing our world really is and how we take it for granted.
