The bankers refused to lend more money and King Louis XVI called for a meeting with the States Generals. With that meeting the Revolution began. </div>]]></description>

As the state sank into final crisis, the government was trying to end the immunity form taxation of the nobles. Historians agree that it was this financial crisis that caused the starts of the French Revolution. </div>]]></description>

The later years of the French Revolution were dominated by Napoleon.  He used his military triumphs to gain political power and crowned himself emperor. Thanks to him, France became the dominant power in Europe. </div>]]></description>
