         <description><![CDATA[<div>"You cannot manage (improve or control) what you do not measure" - Peter F. Drucker<br><br>Alarms are the first line of defense in safeguarding the Process Plants, Personnel, and Property. A good alarm system is imperative to ensure a safe operation and prevent potential catastrophic incidents, like in Three Mile Island (1979), Chernobyl (1986), and BP Refinery (2005). We are proposing a method to reduce the load on the plant operators and to help them correctly identify the root cause FASTER! The method is based on some modern techniques such as Pattern Mining and Network analysis.          <description><![CDATA[<div>&nbsp;</div><div>The cells that line the inside of our lungs are called airway epithelial cells and they form&nbsp; the defense mechanism of the respiratory system against microbial, chemical and other environmental insults that enter the body when we breath. In chronic respiratory diseases, such as asthma and COPD changes in the airway epithelium can affect the pathology of the disease.&nbsp;</div><div>&nbsp; &nbsp;Our research is studying a protein called FOXO1 and its role in making the defensive mechanism of the airway epithelium better.&nbsp;</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div><strong>How do we use tech to design mental health tools that create equitable learning spaces for university students with neurodiverse needs, specifically those with ADHD? <br>*BAWSE = B</strong>raving <strong>A</strong>DHD <strong>W</strong>ithin <strong>S</strong>upportive <strong>E</strong>cosystems<br>( https://joinbawse.com/ )<strong><br></strong><br>ADHD is the <strong>number one </strong>most common student mental health condition <em>AND </em>a top reason why students do not continue post-secondary - yet it is alarming that it is also the most untreated and under-recognized. <br><br>This rings the alarm siren for us and that is, many of our community's potential innovators and passionate thinkers may be discouraged from pursuing their dreams due to ADHD-related challenges.<br><br>As a response to this, we at BAWSE believe that neurodiverse students deserve to take up space without being forced to "hide" their struggles due to fear or shame. <br><br>Therefore, we strive to design <em>v</em><strong><em>irtual coworking spaces</em></strong><strong> &amp;</strong><strong><em> curated community hubs</em></strong> for post-secondary students living with ADHD.<br><br>Our vision is to make BAWSE as <strong>the </strong>meeting point, the connector, the place of activation where neurodivergent minds gather to activate their talents and celebrate their strengths within a thriving neurodiverse community.<br><br>We are proud to be an all student-led team from the University of Alberta and mentored by leading startup mentors including Startup Edmonton, UAlberta Health Innovation Hub, and Innovate Edmonton! <br>--------------------<br>We are currently looking for students living with ADHD and mental health advocates who would like to be a part of our BAWSE Student Advisory Committee! <br><br>At the moment, we are building our first MVP or the first version of the app! <br><br><strong>Please feel free to connect with me:<br>Nicole Rodriguez<br></strong>nicolean@ualberta.ca<br>LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicole-rodriguez13/<br><br>P.S.          <description><![CDATA[<div>We co-developed an app with parents that guides them to co-created resources for managing common childhood illnesses. We are refining and testing this app to ensure it is accessible, usable, and meets parent needs.<br>Parents need the best available information to effectively manage their children’s health. Mobile apps have been shown to be effective and popular with parents for disseminating health information.<br>We built the app as an end-to-end solution for parents that uses their child’s symptoms to suggest one of ARCHE | ECHO’s award-winning Knowledge Translation (KT) resources, then gives parents a map and directions to the nearest open clinics and hospitals.</div>]]></description>
