During the semester I have learned the many ways to listen to music. Ratliff has pointed out musical elements that I never knew affected the way we listen to music. Even when re-listening to older songs like You Are by Charlie Wilson, I'm able to better understand the artist of the song. Even with Cheryl Lynn song Encore. Such as why did the artist write the song. Is it to influence the listener to feel emotions. Or did the artist make the song just to showoff there skills in the music. He also shows us how to listen to music in different genres that we as listeners may not be familiar with. When listening to classical music you won't listen to it the same as listening to pop music. Although Ratliff did point out many ways to listen to music he did not point out all the musical elements. I am now able to listen for new elements outside of Ratliff's book. This book has changed the way I listen to music by making me insightful of the many ways that music can be structured. I had agreed to many of Ratliff's musical elements and how he was able to give examples in his playlist. I did not have a problem with reading Ratliff's book he made every musical element clear making the book a great learning experience.
