This year 27 students attend with the majority of them attending this Arise program event for the first time. Four (4) workshops were offered and led by our college Counselors (Chan Ton, Eddie Lee, Bernadette Flameno, and Hideki Fukusumi) on the topics of: True Colors (personality characteristics & interpersonal communications), Getting out of Your Comfort Zone (courage, managing emotions, confronting fears), and Johari’s Window, a 2-part workshop (self-disclosure and feedback loop, discovering potential). Shout out to our COUNSELING TEAM! Sltudents also participated in team-building and high ropes course activities through UCR, putting into practice some of the lessons learned on day 1.

Many of the students indicated that their decision to apply for the leadership training and commitment to participate was an example of getting out of their comfort zone. We collected qualitative data about their entire experience during the 3-day event. See “Research Report” column.
