Thank you, Mrs. Rodriguez, for teaching me to read and to never give up! You were and are my inspiration for teaching others that language, ethnicity, and family backgrounds are not barriers for learning. Quite the opposite, and that learning is for everyone, as long as you do not give up. You were my first professional role model and your kindness is never forgotten. Note to self- be like Mrs. Rodriguez :)

Mrs. White and Miss Pena was pivotal in my elementary school years. Mrs. White for taking me in with my limited English and ensuring that I had what I needed to succeed. Miss Pena for making me feel unique and setting the bar high because she knew I was capable. She believed in me when I questioned myself. The two amazing teachers continue to be in my life and continue to set exemplary examples of being dedicated, empathetic and work working women.

My 5th grade teacher, Miss Doro read aloud to us. She used the best voices and expression that stories came alive inside my head. I can still remember some of the stories she read to my class. She inspired me to love reading on my own and I still love to travel to places when I escape into a story.
