Including movement in your design process has another advantage: it makes viewers feel more connected to what they're viewing. Vincent Van Gogh's painting Starry Night is a great example of movement in action. The swirls of colour in the sky in this picture sweep the viewer's eyes from left to right, giving the impression of being caught in a night breeze. Van Gogh's brush strokes, on the other hand, produce movement on a mechanical level. All of the black surrounding the principal image and the other copy on the Jurassic Park poster is a textbook example of negative space. Negative space can be difficult for designers to work with since it appears to be empty, yet it really aids in the creation of emphasis. It allows visitors to easily recognise what's vital while still allowing the design to breathe. Positive and negative space combine to generate visual attractiveness and emphasis. Check out graphic designer Jonathan Mak's piece above, which he created as a monument to Steve Jobs after his passing. We can clearly see a photographed image of Hobart's Wrest point casino, photoshopped into a form of a UFO, destroying the rest of the architectural building; portraying a sci-fi and imaginative genre. The use of monotone shades across the image creates a gateway for the viewers imagination to run wild, and allows the viewer to stay engaged and create their own story as the repetition of the floor levels of the building continues to be lifted, especially since the building sits in the foreground contrasting from the surroundings. This image is, also, engaging due to the design of the artwork: since the bottom left rule of third being dark shaded and the UFO and floor levels ever so slowly creeping away from the bottom left corner of the page. After analysing this art piece we can interpret that this shares a message through a childs imagination, stating that (even though we get older) we should all have a little magic in our lives. This is evidentially backed up because the use of the specific building. This Wrest Point Casino has limitations to the people who can access it (people who are 18+) which proves the interpretation, as it is linking a magical genre into an adult environment. In this artwork, it is obvious to see a smiling Patrick Sammy Mills (an Australian-Aboriginal professional basketball player for the Brooklyn Nets), manipulated into a digital illustration portrait. This image, after a dense amount of research, is a screen grab moment captured by an interview from 7News after his NBA team won the grand final, as we can tell from his happy face expression. This digital portrait is a very vibrant image, curtesy of the three coloured circles in the background to represent the Aboriginal flag, and the use of clever lines on his face to show the shading on his face creates a length of depth to the image, almost making the viewer to believe its a 3d image. Also, the detail on Mills' bandana shows the bubbly personality he brings in his aurora. Though the circles in the background are very bright on the paper, it adds character and a contrast to his face overall, enough for the viewer to see a balance of the main focal point but also his personal background. We can interpret that this artist is trying to convey that no one in the world is perfect, even the famous celebrities that we look up to; and we know this through the imbalance (side profile, off guard screen grab and crooked circles) of the image since it creates a sense of realism to the illustration. Mr. Dob has a round head with two ears, similar to Mickey Mouse, with the letter D on the left ear and the letter b on the right ear. Dob is an abbreviation of "dobojite, dobojite," a Dada-like term that means "why, why?" Indeed, Japanese art has always been very two-dimensional and hasn't known about perspective for millennia.
