The building was collapsing and the local bank donated it to the Art Center for future expansion, only one wall remained so we decided to bring some inspiration to the town by painting our future aspirations on the wall. When the Artist showed up for the weekend event the community was buzzing about why anyone was out in the July 110 degree heat in rural missouri to paid a wall. The mural took 2 days to complete as the days transpired people went from staring, to slowing down to comment, to stopping and encouraging the artist, to stopping and having their picture made at the wall. This small gesture has made a huge impact on the community and showing them that small things can make an impact if you are willing to be the change.

Population of Community: Gideon, MO 1056 pop.
Cost: Hard Costs $500 for supplies $500 for Artist expense
Volunteers: 3
Project Shared by Carla Borden

We learned that even a small project can have a big impact on a community.

https://www.bootheelarts.center/

We paired 25 poets with 18 land trust-protected lands. The poets wrote poems inspired by the land which 1) were posted on the website www.writingtheland.org, on the land trust and in outreach materials used by the land trust; 2) are being collected into an anthology to be published December 2021 and sold by the land trusts to support their mission of land protection.

Population: About 80,000 for the entire region - Multiple Rural Communities across New Hampshire where there is protected land: Barrington, Brentwood, Canaan, Canterbury, Conway, Deerfield, Epping, Fitzwilliam, Gilsum, Jaffrey, Lebanon, Litchfield, Newfields, Peterburough, Sharon, Unity, Wilton
Cost: $1510
Volunteers: 26
Project Shared by Lis McLoughlin

We hoped to accomplish:
For the land trusts: outreach into the arts community to express the significance of land protection, and fundraising to protect more land

For the poets: for our poetry to become activist, to allow our poetry to do more than entertain the reader but to inspire them to protect land (either by simply buying the book or to be moved by the collection of our words to do more); and to find like-minded other poets

For the lands: to allow the voices of the land as writing themselves through us, speak for ki's own protection

For the farmers on working farms: Publicity from the publication of the book with hopefully increased sales of their produce

For the larger community: Greater awareness of the work land trusts do to make keep Natural spaces and Farms from development; support for the protection of their Natural environment via book purchases, and hopefully some enjoyment reading the poems and visiting/viewing the lands too

For our environment: More protected farms and forests--->less climate change

We learned that together we are stronger---no one land trust could have coordinated poets and lands; having a central system of coordination make replicating the project across towns and organizations easier. Poets, land protectors, and land make natural partners, and a great community.

Along with our partners, we designed and executed a 2 week long STEAM camp that culminated in a professionally produced music video of an original song written by and featuring the campers.

Population: Cedarville, CA pop. 514
Cost: $10,000
Volunteers: 5
Project Shared by Daniel Roeder

The first week was centered around STEAM activities provided in the GSK/Franklin Institute curriculum. We were able to complete all 4 of the projects, including biomedical engineering, electrical engineering, environmental engineering, and structural engineering. Campers were given supplies and guidance to design and redesign projects that met certain challenges. Along with this curriculum, the campers co-built a biomedical prosthetic hand from NeuroMaker and set an intention to control it using neurofeedback with the BrainCo Brain Control Interface. By the end of the first week, we had also written and recorded scratch recording vocals with Paulie Z, our songwriter from the David Z Foundation.

In the second week of camp, campers focused on finishing the prosthetic hand and producing the music video of the song. There was a group of directors, actors, dancers, solo vocalists, and cinematographers that learned and used collaboration and project management skills to get the job done. On Monday of that week, the task seemed daunting, but by Friday, all of the work was completed and one week later, the campers presented their final song at the Farmers Market in Cedarville.

The project was centered around building relevant 21st Century marketplace and entrepreneurial skills. The programming honored what each camper brought, and we focused on the importance of valuing and highlighting each camper in a strength-based learning environment. Outcomes were enhanced resilience, tenacity, ingenuity, compassion, collaboration, and creativity. The whole community came together to support these 26 campers.

Music is for everyone. 95% of our campers said they were not musically inclined, but we had participation from 100% of our campers in the final product, including one student with a hearing impairment and one student who is nonverbal.
Science is for everyone. The camp was rooted in the scientific method and inquiry based learning. Every student got to experience the joy of redesigning something that "didn't work" until it "worked". Ages ranged from 3 to 15.

https://northstatetogether.org/surprise-valley-stem-camp-advancing-modoc-youth/

Artful Streets invites everyone to be part of the art-making and sharing, creating experiences of participatory arts and social engagement, designed to be inclusive of our diversity—age, gender, race, culture, identity, ability and experience. Artful Streets is agile, designing for “the gaps”—spatially and programmatically—and focusing on human interaction and expression. We’ll do this by occupying interstitial spaces throughout town with Pop-Up Art Stations during Gallery Walk. Each month Pop-Ups will feature local cultural artists and organizations, offering activities based on a theme.

Brattleboro, VT pop ~12,000
https://www.humanconnectionproject.com/artful-streets
