Even hiking and kayaking are strategies to help with depression and to help get what the issue is off of their mind. I also learned that there are over throughout the past 10-15 years the rate of depression had increased from 7.9 percent all the way to 14.4 percent in kids ages 12-17 years old. An action that can be taken to help with depression is going and consulting with a doctor or a therapist and talking about what you are angry or frustrated about.

I learned that ADHD is most common in kids ranging 4-17 years old and 6.4 million kids are affected by this illness. Another thing that I learned was that out the people suffering from ADHD, 5 out of 10 have conduct problems, 3 out of 10 have anxiety and 2 out of 10 have depression. An action that can be taken to help people with ADHD is to be able to keep them on track. Whether that be through positive and negative consequences or keeping a clear cut schedule, people should be aware that people with ADHD are not "dumb" as they are often associated with, they have trouble focusing. And as their peers, it is our responsibility to encourage them and keep them on track.

Also, I learned that depression is 80-90% treatable. One action I would suggest to do is if you believe that the symptoms match up or you are feeling sad for a couple days, talk to either your doctor or your parents about it.

My mental illness that i had selected was PTSD, two interesting things that I learned were that 1/11 people will get PTSD sometime in their lifetime regardless of who they are or what they do for their chosen profession. Another interesting fact is that if you spend more and more time with someone who has PTSD you can get PTSD without even witnessing or being in the event. One action that can be done to bring awareness of this is going to a therapist to talk it out and have them help you with it or to go to certain doctors to help you relive the event in VR to help you overcome the event.

Two things that I learned is that 9% of all americans will suffer from an eating disorder at some point in their life and eating disorders are less commonly diagnosed in someone who is average to overweight which can leave many serious cases undiagnosed. One thing we can do to raise awareness on this issue is to educate ourselves weather by watching videos on the recovery process for anorexia or just educating ourselves on the signs and looking out for others who may be struggling.

One strategy that I learnt that you can do to if someone you know has schizophrenia, is to attend family therapy. Family therapy allows loved ones and flock members to become informed about the illness, while also learning about ways to help the person who has schizophrenia. It also creates a space to heal any damaged family dynamics.

The mental illness that I chose was schizophrenia. Schizophrenia often gets confused with bipolar disorder but it is nothing like bipolar disorder. Schizophrenia is a disorder that affects 1% of all people but does not have a known cause of why it happens. It can be active sometimes which means the symptoms are showing and the person may be having hallucinations or hearing voices and other times the disorder can be inactive showing little to no symptoms of schizophrenia. There is no known cause or cure for it so it can be very difficult to help someone with schizophrenia, but one way you can help others is to acknowledge the fact that even though you may not hear or see this stuff it doesn't mean that they are doing it for attention or they don't really see it.

There are some healthy ways to lose weight but also a lot of bad ways such as making yourself throw up of not eating which is really unhealthy. This can also cause depression too. To bring awareness to this disorder you could make sure that the green ribbon is more known because it represents eating disorders.

One way to support someone with ADHD is to ask them what they need help with. Although this might seems like a simple thing, it is very important. I learned in my research that many people that have eating disorders know they shouldn't be eating too much or too little, but they just can't control it. I also learned that a big factor of developing eating disorder are celebrities and distorted body images, which can make regular people feel insignificant and shameful of their body. A strategy to deal with this disorder is to go to psychotherapy or a nutritionist, preferably with a friend or family member, because they can help you feel more comfortable and less ashamed while discussing your condition.
