Due to a complicated border dispute, it is the only area of land in the world to have two countries assert that it belongs to the other. 

It's interesting to see why a piece of land would not only be uninhabited, but unclaimed. I find it interesting how perceptions of places are ever changing for example Williamstown was once an unwanted industrial fishing area, today it stands as one of the most expensive areas to live in the west.
