This disaster is when a volcano explodes, sending ash and lava into the air.

It is caused by a pressure build up deep in the earths core, which, if not released slowly, can explode violently.

The volcano has 2 main effects, first the ash can block out the sun, cause people to be unable to breathe. The second effect is the lava or magma, which can destroy buildings and forests.

One of the most famous recent volcanic eruptions was Eyjafjallajökull in Iceland. Although no one was killed, it did stop all air travel for months globally.
