It says that story is built upon the problems people suffer with in real life. It also states that people will be hooked in because of the humor and the movement. The review said that people will not want to put the book down.
The review is right. I did not want to put the book down. The review is spot on in their statements. The comedy is absolutely perfect and the seriousness of the issues that took place will leave you wanting to read it over and over. In conclusion, the review written for Looking for Alaska is 100% accurate.

As depressing as it sounds, the main concept of Looking for Alaska is suffering. Alaska Young is the focal point of the endless suffering. She "copes" with the loss of her mom by killing her liver with intense amounts of alcohol. The colonel deals with the absence of his dad, and Pudge deals with second-hand suffering. Alaska chooses to end her suffering by committing suicide. She couldn't deal with hers anymore so she ended it. That in turn, caused the suffering of The Colonel and Pudge. The Colonel lost his sister. Pudge lost his love.
The universal theme of Looking for Alaska is suffering. The theme is what makes the book a reality for some people. Many people today, go through the exact same thing as Alaska, The Colonel, and Pudge did. Because suffering is something everyone goes through, no matter the culture, ethnicity, or location, it qualifies it as a universal theme. In conclusion, the dismal main idea of the book is suffering.

Chip Martin, also known as "The Colonel", is the character that always has a witty comment ready to throwback at someone. He, physically, is a short and stocky charismatic guy who has a gift of leading others. He's optimistic and he's always got a plan up his sleeve. The Colonel also sees life in absolutes. There are no ifs, ands, or buts. He also stands by his morals. In conclusion, The Colonel is a quick thinking, leader who can always come up with something to help someone out.
The Colonel quickly becomes a leader to Pudge and the squad. He is the one that writes the plans so that they are in time to the nearest second.
I relate to the Colonel's witty comebacks. Everytime there is a joke, I always have another ready to fire back. I also am very sarcastic like the Colonel. In conclusion, I relate more closely to the Colonel because of his sense of humor.
