The Index Card Problem (1st pd) by Mrs. Biediger

An index card is folded in half so that the length changes but the width remains constant. What happens to the card's area with every fold? Would the card completely disappear as the folding continues?

No since you are folding it, it will get harder and harder to fold. Since you are folding it will get thicker to fold and harder. I have tried this theory before. Also it will always have an area, thick or skinny the area will always be there.

I don't think the area will change because there really is always a width and even without a length there would still be an area. Theory 2: is would disappear with no length because then there'd be no place for the width. But theory 2 is probably wrong because things just don't disappear.

Every time the card is folded the card will have a smaller length. The width will stay the same depending on how you are folding it. Each time you fold it, it will get harder and harder to fold in half. Ultimately I think the area will just be cut in half each time you fold it. (Ex: lets say you have an area of 36 inches. You fold the card in half then I think the new area will be 18 inches) I think it will do this because you are basically folding the area in half. The card will never disappear it will just get VERY tiny.
