The antagonist is Sudan. The people who live in Southern Sudan practice different religious activities than Sudan, which wants to convert it’s people into believing Islam. Because of this, Sudan is attacking Southern Sudan and they are trying to take over Southern Sudan. In the middle of this, 11 year old Salva is caught in the conflict and he has to escape Sudan. Salva runs as long he can run and starts to walk until he gets to his village, Loun-Ariik.

At the end of his stay, he sees a woman sitting outside of the barn. He notices she has a Dinka pattern, so she is part of Salva’s tribe. She gave Salva water and peanuts.
