So far in the book, Salva is at school and he is hearing gunshots and bombs in the distance. He has to hide, but eventually the teacher tells them to run out of the school. After that, Salva sees a plane crash into the school a destroy the school essentially to rubble. Salva runs as long he can run and starts to walk until he gets to his village, Loun-Ariik.
The most important thing I learned from reading this, is that I should be thankful for living here in the US where there are no wars or any violence, etc.

There is another supporting character. At the end of chapter 2, Salva runs away from the rebels (who are forcing his tribe to carry supplies) to a little barn. He thought it looked abandoned, but it wasn’t. At the end of his stay, he sees a woman sitting outside of the barn. He notices she has a Dinka pattern, so she is part of Salva’s tribe. She gave Salva water and peanuts. Also, in the midst of all the fighting, Salva notices that the water supplies is running out.
