How and why did these trials even begins?
The Salem Witch Trials began after a group of girls in Salem Village claimed to be possessed by the devil and accused several local women of witchcraft. Later arrest warrants were issued for Tituba, Sarah Good, and Sarah Osborn. The three women were brought to magistrates Johnathan Corwin and John Hathorne and questioned. Both Good and Osborn denied their guilt. But Tituba confessed, she claimed that there was other witches acting alongside her in service of the devil against the Puritans. The new spread through the Salem community and to the rest of Massachusett. Many more people were accused of witchcraft. Some people that were accused confessed and said that there are still others that are witches. On June 2, 1692, Bridget Bishop was convicted and she was hanged eight days later. Many more people were hanged after her.
"Salem Witch Trials," A&E Television Networks, 4 November, 2011, https://www.history.com/topics/colonial-america/salem-witch-trials

The Puritans believed that God had formed a unique agreement with the Puritans and those who disobey will be punished. They believed God expected them to live to reform the Anglican Church and to set good for those who were in England. When becoming a Puritan the training of the children were considered heavy responsibilities and parents prayed that children would become a source of glory to their Lord. The Puritans believed in rough punishment and would do anything when disobeying and making a sin.
