A New Christmas Tradition

When our kids were little, we would watch the old Claymation Christmas movies on Christmas Eve and open one present before bedtime. The kids would wake us up super early on Christmas morning (one year at 3 a.m) to see what Santa left for them. Then they would play with their new toys while I made Christmas breakfast. They would stay in their PJs all day playing.

I don't have kids at home any more, but I want to start a new tradition this year with our 2 grandkids. I want them to come over and watch Rudolph or Santa Claus Is Coming To Town and spend the night and stay in their PJs all day at our house while they play with their Christmas presents.

Stocking Tradition

I was introduced to a very interesting stocking tradition the first Christmas with my husband's family! He grew up with his mom collecting trinkets, candy, etc. all year long, then stuffing it all into a REAL pantyhose leg stocking! They would be about 3-4 ft. long and full of fun little gifts that would take quite some time to sort through. So, we have carried that tradition on with our family. We lay them out draped over the fireplace and that is the first thing opened on Christmas morning. We found some cute red and white hose that we use and tie them with a ribbon and name tag. Of course, as the kids have become adults, more items tend to be practical, mixed with some fun, unexpected things. We hope that our kids will carry this fun stocking tradition on with their own families someday!
