"Other important factors"
Although, as a teacher, being an expert in his or her subject can be considered as an important element in being a ‘good teacher’, it is not the only way a teacher can be effective since other important characteristics exist that can make a teacher effective. As mentioned above, having good knowledge of a subject does not necessarily mean he or she is a good teacher or is good at delivering that knowledge to the students. Therefore, if a teacher lacks good communication skills, the teacher will fail to clearly deliver their knowledge to the students and the students will not be able to grasp the concept of the subject. This then also links to ‘motivation’ and ‘willingness’, which could be considered as a factor that is more important than ‘being an expert’. This is because, if a teacher lacks motivation and fails to keep students engaged, students will quickly become demotivated and in worse case scenario, become ‘disengaged’. Therefore, it can be argued that a ‘good’ and effective teacher would be someone with ‘experience’, motivation, and good communications skills.

- A good teacher does not mean to have the best knowledge in their field.

- There are teachers who are not qualified but they are seen as good teachers because they have the skills acquired.

- According to Barbany Lenon from the Telegraph, yes parents want the best knowledgeable teachers, however that does not mean they are good.

- “Teaching is partly acting, and acting ability helps greatly”, this sentence shows that it is not all about the knowledge, character and management skills are also fundamental.

"Without a solid knowledge of the subject, every other important factor could be useless"

According to Illeris, three factors should be achieved in order to carry out an effective learning. One of the factors is that there must be something to teach. And this factor shows us that even though teachers managed to make the students willing to learn, if they don't have knowledge to teach, an effective learning won’t be able to carry out.

example of a teacher who has good pedagogy and poor knowledge understanding

if a teacher does not have a solid knowledge in subject, he may not be confident in himself and other factors can be affected. So the importance of knowledge could be seen from this point of view.

Why student-teacher relationships are more important than subject expertise

Student teacher relationships are more important than having subject expertise as they have shown to keep students engaged and thus learn more in class (EVIDENCE AND REFERENCE. Obviously, the teacher should have sufficient knowledge in the subject they are teaching, however I believe that being an ‘expert’ in the subject is not what makes their teaching the best. The more comfortable students feel in the presence of their teacher, the more likely they are to turn up to class and engage with what they are being taught (REFERENCE). They will also feel more comfortable asking for help if their relationship with their teacher is positive (REFERENCE). This is important because no one learns at the same pace from the same teaching techniques. Those that feel comfortable asking for help will progress further because the teacher will be able to identify that they need to change their teaching techniques for certain students – adaptability is another important skill essential for good teaching. Jones and Jones also found that where there is an interest in learning due to a positive environment, there will be less student disruption than in a class that is poorly organised and where ‘students are not provided with appropriate and interesting instructional tasks’ (Jones & Jones, 1981).

Jones, Vernon F., and Louise Jones.
