Role of the Gods: Hades plays the role of the god in this episode because Odysseus travels to his land. Hades accepts Odysseus into his land and lets him do what he needs to do. "By night our ship ran onward toward the ocean's bourne"(Homer 969)
Plot Points: The plot point in this episode is crossing the threshold. Odysseus needs to get to tireseus to find out about his future."Son of Laertes and gods of old, Odysseus, master of land ways and sea ways, why leave the blazing sun, O man of woe, to see the cold dead and joyless region?"

Role of the Gods: Poseidon plays a role in the Cyclops by listening to Polyphemus. After listening to Polyphemus he cursed Odysseus and his men."O hear me, lord, blue girdler of the islands, if I am thine indeed, and thou art father: grant that Odysseus, raider of cities, never see his home"(Homer 966)
Plot Points: the plot point in the Cyclops is a test. "I drew it from the coals and my four fellows gave me a hand, lugging it near the Cyclops as more than natural force nerved them; straight forward they sprinted, lifted it, and rammed it deep into the crater of his eye." (Homer pg 962).
The Greek Value: The Greek value in the Cyclops is hospitality. Odysseus and his men had brought a bottle of wine with them when they went exploring the caves. In exchange the Cyclops ate his men. "A wine skin full I brought along..."(Homer 957)
Characteristics: Odysseus shows characteristics of Leadership and Arrogance. He shows leadership by not being afraid of the Cyclops, and Arrogance by taunting the Cyclops after they escape. "O Cyclops! Would you feast on my companions? Puny am I, in a cave man's hands?
