This tool can also enable guest lecturers to deliver a lecture remotely for students who are together in a lecture room. Lectures or conferences that use this platform are effective if students are active.

It can be used by all those involved in the teaching and learning process for both summative and formative assessment.

The barrier is that it works online, mainly in contexts of low connectivity and high cost of internet access, as is the case in Mozambique.

The benefits of using Padlet are as follows:

I have personally used it to create presentations to teach concepts across a number of subjects and then also convert those presentations into videos that can be shared with my students to use a revision tools.

I cannot think of a barrier (I have yet to encounter one).

Copilot is a digital that most people both students, working class as well as business class people use in their work. It is AI tool that is capable of giving you any information you may wish to have in a well and simplified version. I have consulted Copilot with information I have little or no knowledge on. I have also encouraged my students to use when developing information for group presentations.

The main purpose of Duolingo is to improve language skills such as reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar, and vocabulary. Students can practice every day and learn at their own pace using a smartphone, tablet, or computer. The app is designed for beginners as well as advanced learners, making it suitable for learners of different ages and education levels.

One of the advantages of Duolingo is that it keeps learners motivated through rewards, badges, points, leaderboards, and daily streaks. These features encourage users to continue learning consistently. Teachers can also use Duolingo in classrooms to give students extra language practice and monitor their progress.

This cloud-based online communication platform is used for conducting online meetings, virtual classes, webinars and video conferences. It allows people to communicate and collaborate remotely. For instance, a teacher can use Zoom to conduct a live virtual lesson with students who are learning from home.

One Barrier

Since Zoom requires a stable internet connection, it can be difficult for users in areas with poor or unreliable network coverage.

It’s a messaging app for quick, free communication. Text, voice notes, calls, photos, docs, groups, and status updates all work over internet data/WiFi instead of SMS.

Educational benefits

- Instant group collaboration: Teachers/students can make class groups for homework help, reminders, sharing notes, PDFs, and links without email delays.

- Voice notes + calls: Great for language practice, explaining concepts verbally, or quick 1:1 tutoring when typing is slow.

- Broadcast lists/Channels: Schools can push announcements, exam schedules, or daily vocab words to many students at once.

- Media sharing: Diagrams, photos of whiteboards, short demo videos, and voice explanations make abstract topics easier to grasp.

1. The purpose of Microsoft Teams is to provide communication from one to few parties instantly or scheduled through video or text.

2. It is mostly used by lecturers, business owners, politicians, and students.

3. For example, a lecturer can schedule an online class through Microsoft Teams. A lecture will adjust the settings to only allow students with accounts, who have access to the meeting ID, to allow his/her own presentation, and allow student to use their mics and cameras to have an engaged online class.

4. One barrier about Microsoft Teams is that it requires stable connectivity to to be connected and it consumes a lot of MB per minute.

Most of the students find it easy to use whatsapp and can be used even on simple phone owned by learners that may not manage to own complex phones.

One big challenge of using whatsapp is non-availability of connectivity by some students when they are out of college premises.

It is efficient and addresses challenges of distance and time. Limitations:

- Lack of ICT equipment

- Poor networks

- Poor electricity supply

Barrier: it requires internet access fo full functionality and some users may lack the training or digital skills needed to use all its features effectively.

Who uses it?
Undergraduate and postgraduate students, teachers, lecturers, researchers, and healthcare professionals in the life sciences, including molecular biology, biotechnology, microbiology, genetics, biochemistry, and medicine.

What is it used for?
MolBio AI is an AI-powered educational platform designed to support learning and research in the life sciences. Canvas is a learning management system (LMS) that allows lecturers to share course materials, create assignments and quizzes, communicate with students, facilitate discussions, and manage grades. Students use it to access learning resources, submit assignments, participate in discussions, and view feedback.

Real example:
At many universities, lecturers upload weekly lecture slides and readings to Canvas, students submit assignments through the Assignments tool, and quizzes are completed online. Discussion boards are also used to facilitate class engagement.

One barrier:
A common barrier is the cost of internet data and unreliable internet access, which can make it difficult for students to access course materials or submit assignments on time. Another challenge is that some users require training to use all of Canvas's features effectively.

Benefits:

It provides a daily limit on tokens that recurs. Leonardo is beneficial in education and professional work for artists, designers (of all types), and illustrators to brainstorm ideas through mood boards, concept visualisation and presentation slide options.

Challenges:

The unlimited monthly package is currently very expensive. These are also limited payment modes, that is credit card or PayPal (no M-Pesa) Also requires a powerful computer and a reliable high-speed internet connection.

ChatGPT is an AI-powered learning tool that helps students and teachers with learning, research, writing, problem-solving, lesson planning, and explanations. It provides instant responses to questions and can generate quizzes, summaries, lesson plans, and educational activities.

Educational Benefits

* Explains difficult concepts in a simple and understandable way.

* Supports independent learning by answering students’ questions anytime.

* Assists teachers in creating lesson plans, worksheets, assessments, and classroom activities.

* Improves writing, grammar, and critical thinking skills.

* Encourages creativity through brainstorming and project ideas.

Educational Context:

Teachers can use ChatGPT to prepare lesson materials and classroom activities, while learners can use it to revise content, receive explanations, complete assignments, and practise exam questions.

This can be used by students and teachers. They allow experts to be invited without them travelling. It's full utilisation is affected by poor connectivity in Zimbabwe

It does not require any skills .

The barrier is that not all student can afford a mobile phone or a computer, the network reception is also everywhere and expensive.

It needs data and may not work in some mobile phones

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence (AI) tool that helps users generate text, answer questions, explain concepts, solve problems, and support learning across a wide range of subjects.

Educational benefits:
ChatGPT enhances learning by providing instant explanations, helping students understand difficult concepts, assisting with research, generating ideas, improving writing and grammar, and offering personalized study support. It also encourages independent learning by allowing students to ask questions and receive feedback at their own pace.

It connects the entire school community

• Teachers: It simplifies organizing lesson plans.

• Students: It gives them a clear spot to learn.

• Schools: It keeps all subjects organized.

• Parents: It keeps them in the loop.

A day in the life on the platform

Imagine walking into a virtual school building. A teacher sets up the digital room, stacking the digital shelves with reading notes, helpful videos, and homework tasks. Students open the door using a private invite code. When assignments are due, students type them up on their screens and submit them with a single click. The teacher then reviews the work, leaves encouraging feedback, and posts reminders on the class bulletin board.

What gets in the way?

• Offline Homes: Unreliable home Wi-Fi locks students out.

• Device Shortages: Not every child has a personal laptop or phone.

• Learning Curves: Basic computer tasks can overwhelm tech-shy families.

• Blackouts: Power cuts instantly disconnect the entire virtual room.

• Tech Bugs: Forgotten passwords and frozen screens spark daily frustration.

We have an environmental club group were we discuss our club meetings, various projects and weekly plans.

An advantage about WhatsApp is that is easy to use, no training needed. However, one of the main challenges when it comes to using it, is data access. Most of my learners do not have access to a constant internet services and a few of them do not have smartphones. This leads to some learners being left out of the discussion.
