A book I have pretended to have read is "Harry Potter", I never read the whole series but I have only finished the first book which is "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone".

The book I hate the most is "Goldilocks", I don't understand why a little girl just ran into a stranger's house and drank their soup and slept on their bed. I think she is disrespectful.

The kinds of things I look for in a book are a setting that I like and a good hook at the start. I also really like books with cliffhangers because they are really interesting. sometimes in a typical type of novel, I will look through the characters that have similar personalities to me.

the types of hooks I engaged with are descriptive drops, rhetorical questions, and a cliffhanger. my favourite hooks is a cliffhanger, it leaves you with an imagination and you want to keep reading on.

I want to read books in the future such as "Goodbye Stranger" by Rebecca Stead. Because have read the book "when you reach me" by Rebecca stead before. And I like her style of writing so I am looking forward to checking out the book.

Film adaptations of books I particularly liked are "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" by Roald Dahl, and "Witches" by Roald Dahl. I chose these two films because I really like Roald Dahls story's and when they turn to film it is very dramatic.

"I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud"-William Wordsworth: summary

Romantic poet William Wordsworth wrote a poem in 1804 titled 'I Wander Lonely Like Clouds'. The final version was published in 1815. This poem depicts the famous lake area in England. Many people are influenced by the feelings in poetry, and they also want to be as cheerful and energetic as daffodils.

This poem is based on Wordsworth's thoughts while walking in the lake area. During his walk, Wordsworth discovered beautiful natural plants and flowers. He emphasized the depiction of daffodils in his poetry, the moment they bloomed, which reminded Wordsworth of "freedom" and "happiness". When he returned home, he lay on the sofa and began to reminisce about today's scene. He thought about the charm of daffodils, as he imagined himself dancing freely and happily like daffodils.

The author wrote “I gazed-and gazed-but little thought/ what wealth the show to me had brought:” . The daffodils seem to be not important in our life, but they give a positive effect and cheerful feeling to William Wordsworth.

Compared to another poem by william wordsworth, “composed upon westminster bridge” , this poem is in the opposite theme. The poem “composed upon Westminster Bridge” is about how nature gives the city a magnificent scene. While “I wandered Lonely as a cloud” is in the countryside scene. The similarities in them are the powerful power of nature and the peacefulness. They are all talking about how the power of nature can build these romantic places.

"Ozymandias"-Percy Bysshe Shelley: summary

The poem "Ozymandias" by Percy Bysshe Shelley was written in the year 1818. This piece of poetry was written during a poem competition!

This poem is about an ancient Egypt king "Ozymandias",
Shelley expresses his idea of the corruption of the government in the 1800s and satirizes people like Ozymandias who owned power and became arrogant.

In the second line, The traveler describes the body of Ozymandias as “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone / Stand in the desert…” This sentence uses imagery and depicts the crumbling state of the statue. The statue symbolizes the fragility of Ozymandias’ power. The original statue of Ozymandias now has only left two broken legs, a missing face, and a pedestal. Time is not friendly to this statue, and its current state makes a juxtaposition to the words on the pedestal. Even this' King of Kings' can only lie in the distant desert, indicating that no amount of power can withstand the power of time.

In the last lines of the poem, Shelley writes, “Round the decay / Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare / The lone and level sands stretch far away.” This sentence uses plosive alliteration so that the pronunciation of ‘boundless’ and ‘bare’ sounds like something is cracking, emphasizing the loneliness of this place. The colossal wreck that used to belong to Ozymandias has lost everything, which means that Ozymandias has lost his power and kingdom. The words' boundless' and 'bare' describe deserts, but they also describe Ozymandias. He has been forgotten; In his ancient kingdom, everything was lost. Shelley attempted to imply that this would ultimately happen to every ruler, as no one could hold power forever. In the Romantic era, unlike citizens, the government had a great deal of power, which led to huge corruption. Shelley implicitly criticizes this power, implying that even the greatest rulers and their kingdoms would fall into the sand of time.

I gently opened the sorrowful withered leaves, the rustling sound was like a cry of the devil. In front of me is an eerie medieval castle, the spreading vines savagely covered this corrupt house. My feet, almost frozen to ice, made an unusual cracking sound as I stepped on the icy gravel. The thin air surrounded me, looking up at the sky, a huge black cloth covering the day's light. I looked around quietly, the flower beds on both sides leading to the front door were already covered with lifeless leaves. In the grass far and near, several withered grasses were expressing their sadness. Suddenly, I noticed a pair of cold eyes staring at me from the dilapidated window of the castle. I slowly lifted my head and found a woman with a pale face. Her face was as white as an antique doll and a snow-white wolf. Through the glass, I saw her hollowed-out eyes were full numb, and dull. In just one second, she suddenly disappeared.

This is a dark and dreary night, I am on my way home. The street lights flickered strangely, quiet, it was so quiet. The town seemed abandoned for ages, and the sound of my steps became particularly clear. I quickened my steps and walked into an old-fashioned house. Its perfect vertical proportion reminds me of a lonely empty skull, its eyes staring ahead in a daze. I looked out of the stained glass windows, and as I went near the windowsill, a cool breeze blew through my desolate bones. It seems like angels are crying in the dull night sky. The vines over grown on the stairs. When I reached the second floor, I barely heard a cry from a woman. The sound is getting louder and louder, making my heart almost pump out. I wanted to walk back downstairs, but I suddenly realized that the stairs had disappeared at some point! The entire floor was surrounded by black mists, with only the sobbing sound becoming clearer and clearer.

WIDER READING: George Orwell: '1984'

What clues are there in the text that this story is taking place in a dystopian world? How does this make the reader feel? Why does it make the reader feel this way?

The author uses a lot of description for the environment to describe the world in "1984", This has shown in this paragraph, "The small whirlwind on the street rolled up the dust and torn paper into a spiral shape. Although the sun was shining brightly, the sky was dazzling. Blue, everything seems devoid of any color except for the posters posted everywhere.” The author describes the surrounding environment as a very cold world. For example describing the sky as a "harsh blue”, This gives the reader a very strong feeling of the dystopia feeling. The author uses these environmental elements to suggest that this is a dystopian world.

What do you think day to day life is like for Winston? Why do you think this? Back your ideas up with a quotation from the text.

I think Winston should be a member of the party, his daily life might be about party work. Although the article does not mention where he works and what his job is, but there is a description of his clothing, "the thinness of his body merely emphasized by the blue overalls which were the uniform of the Party." This indicates that he should be a member of The party, maybe working in one of the ministries.

Who do you think ‘The Party’ are? Explain your ideas.

‘The party ‘should be the ruler of this world and the one who control the society. Because in the article, we can see that there are many references to The party. For example, the four departments corresponding to the four buildings on the ground are all controlled by The party.

What do the words ‘BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING YOU’ suggest to the reader about the world these characters live in?

This suggest that the world these characters live in is monitored, and everyone is being watched without any privacy. It also shows that the government controls things very strictly. In this article it has also mentioned about something called a telescreen, think this may be used to watch people.

Compare the description of the man on the poster with the description of Winston. What do you notice? Why do you think this is?

The man on the poster looks very strong, creating a comparison to Winston. Winston is described in the article as being very thin and short. I notice that the author mentioned that there are many posters on the street. So I think these posters are here to intimidate people, reminding that the rules are strict.
