A movie that is about human rights: Sound of Freedom

The sound of freedom explores the story of Tim Ballard, a federal agent who devoted his life to saving a young girl named Rocio from ruthless child traffickers. Rocio's Human rights were violated in many ways that no one should endure, especially not a young child. The film shows how she was lured by a woman who claimed she was a part of an agency for child stars. Rocio and her brother were immediately captured and vanished from society before their father was aware of the situation. This deception led to their exploitation, violating their fundamental rights to safety, freedom, and protection from trafficking.

A right sometimes denied to women: Abortion

In Canada, abortion is legally recognized as a fundamental right, with no law criminalizing or restricting it. Abortion is illegal in several countries, while others have restrictions. In my opinion, implementing anti-abortion laws will only create new and harmful ways to abort a fetus and access to safe and legal abortion is essential for women's health and well-being. This article shares the heartbreaking story of a 13-year-old girl who gave birth after she was raped and denied abortion in Mississippi due to the states anti-abortion law. A child forced to take care of another child due to someone else's cruel actions is simply incorrect.

A right all children should have: The Right to an Education

I believe that education is a right that all children should undoubtably have. The right to an education means that every child should have access to schooling, regardless of their background or where they live. If we want to build a better and happier world we have to start by educating children first. Investing into children's education creates smarter, more intelligent individuals, leading to a stronger future.

Liberals for Life is a Canadian activist group that is strictly anti-abortion. They believe they are protecting life, even if that means robbing women of their right to make decisions about their own bodies. By pushing for such strict limits, the group is essentially taking away peoples right to choose, a fundamental part of human freedom and equality.

Human rights are currently being violated in Rwanda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) because of a was that started in 2022. Rwandan forces went to the DRC to help a rebel group known as M23, fighting against the Congolese army. The conflict between the two countries caused many problems, like people losing their homes, getting hurt, or being forced out of their homes. Their basic rights to safety and freedom are not being protected. Steven Cousins, a local farmer and inspiration to many, helps struggling Rwandans by teaching them how to create a source of income for themselves, attempting to bring hope to others through this rough time.

The article explains the story of Michelle Douglas, a former military police officer who was denied the right to be free from discrimination by the Canadian Military when she was abruptly kicked out for being gay. Three years after her harsh dismissal she quickly became a public voice for those affected by what is now called the "LGBTQ purge." This is because she successfully sued the Canadian government in 1990, with the military ending its discrimination against LGBTQ people in October 1992. Discrimination currently remains a huge problem in Canada, with Michelle's heart-breaking experience being just one of many.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was created by the United Nations in 1948 after World War II. It is a document that lists 30 of the basic rights and freedoms that everyone person in the world should have, regardless of there race, gender, nationality, or beliefs. Although the UDHR is not a law itself, the document has inspired many real laws around the world. Some examples of human rights include the right to life, the right to education, freedom of speech, etc...

A type of human rights violation that most disturbs you: Article 5

Article 5, states that "No one shall be subjected to torture or to cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment." This type of human right violation disturbs me the most, especially as a young female in todays world. Torture, whether physical, psychological, or emotional, completely strips someone of their dignity and leaves the victim with irreversible damage. What makes torture especially horrifying is that it usually happens to people who grasp very little power and in secret or without punishment. It can be frightening when governments allow the use of torture, because it means that they believe hurting people is okay if it helps them, and that's not right at all. P.S being tortured is my biggest fear...

The Right to Life is pretty self-explanatory, it means that every person has the right to live and be protected from being killed. It is one of most fundamental rights because without life, there would be no other rights. Governments must respect people and ensure their lives are protected at all times.
