The first reason is that the price of electric cars are higher than the petrol cars. Battery cost is the main reason that leads to high cost. Electric car batteries are made from some minerals and materials that are in high demand, they are hard to be found and need a lot of time to be extracted, the production cost is high. Moreover, electric cars have few competitors, they do not need to lower their prices in order to attract customers. This leads to the high cost of electric cars.

To conclude, the widespread use of electric vehicles is crucial for the saving the environment. Through the concerted effort made by the governments and having more charging stations, it is believed that electric cars will be ranked at the top of global sales charts in the future.

Yours faithfully,
Chris Wong

Government should do something to lower the price of electric cars.

The government in different countries can take a leadership role in society to provide subsidies to electric car buyers. It can provide a fresh impetus to motivate people to buy more electric vehicles instead of their conventional counterparts. It is because when the price of a petrol car is similar to that of an electric car, people may not put the cost as their main consideration. Instead, they will start to think about other benefits of the vehicle, such as safeguarding the environment. Therefore, they will purchase more electric vehicles than they did in the past. The government's support can definitely create a top-down ripple effect in society to attract more potential drivers of electric cars. In the short term, this measure yields immediate results as it can directly provide an economic incentive for people to choose electricity vehicles. In the long run, when the popularity of electric cars in society gradually increases, more people will be affected by the herd mentality to buy electric cars instead of petrol cars. Hence, the provision of subsidies can increase the sales of electric vehicles.

Set up more charging stations

The public charging network mainly serves as supplementary charging facilities, enabling electric vehicles to top up their batteries to complete their journeys when necessary. Yet, there is insufficient charging stations. The potential buyers will consider charging arrangements before buying electric vehicles. As a result, the government should set up more charging stations to improve the charging efficiency of electric cars. The charging facilities can be built at citizens' working place, home or other places. With more charging stations and more convenient charging facilities, citizens are more willing to buy the electric cars as they do not need to afraid of the running out of battery of their electric cars as the charging facilities are always near them. In the long run, it will gain the popularity of electric cars. With this popular trend, more people will tend to buy electric cars due to the value of consumerism and conformity. Hence, set up more charging stations can promote the sales of electric cars.

The second reason is that electric cars have long charging time.
Some electric cars require more than 10 hours to be fully charged before they are ready to be used while petrol cars only need 5 to 10 minutes for refuelling the gas. Nowadays people seek for top efficiency, as electric cars have long charging time, people with electric cars needed to wait until their car was completely charged, this lowers people’s incentive to purchase electric cars.

The third reason is that there are insufficient charging stations for electric cars. Take Hong Kong as an example, Hong Kong has a high population density but there are only 12 charging stations in Hong Kong. This shows that the charging stations are inadequate, people may need to drive for a long distance in order to reach the stations for charging, this creates range anxiety and people are fear of their car running out of battery, therefore people will not tend to buy electric cars for use.
