Bronfenbrenner theory offers a idea about the support systems which is called a mircosystem this is the layer would have the MCHN in it until the age of 5. Within this system it also connects with mesosystem and if the family trust the support of the MCHN or trust other people within the mircosystem instead.

I found this to be interesting, especially in terms of the overarching chronosystem. The role of time is very important in MCHN, as what is evidence based care ultimately changes over time - as we know things change in health care all the time. Also from a social-historical context what a family believes to be the proper care of their child may in fact be not medically evidence based, however we still need to recognise their culture or views of parenting as part of our MCH care.

This system describes individual outcomes in relation to the wider contexts of a persons life. It acknowledges the interconnectedness of all facets of a persons life, and how these factors interact in different ways to influence a persons developmental outcomes. This is particularly important in MCH given our ability as professionals to help draw focus to areas of strength and aid with countering negative influence of other areas, leading to improved child development.

Families in the community are multicultural, experience diverse socioeconomical backgrounds and differing work opportunities. These factors have a huge impact on quality of life and child development issues. As a MCHN we must be able to work with multitude of family dynamics to achieve best outcomes.

I found Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model Theory very insightful. It focuses on the quality and context of the child's environment. It was featured that as the child develops, the interaction within these environments becomes more complex which can show as the child grows. This is relevant in MCHN practice as it highlights that concerns or individual factors may not arise initially, placing importance on the continuity of the MCHN service.

Bronfenbrenner's theory is an interesting way to view how the different facets of a person's world interact. This theory is helpful for the MCH to consider when trying to understand the context of a family, and the choices they make.

When working as an MCHN, it allows us to consider a range of factors that influence that childs health. The model allows us as clinicians to have insight to the social determinants of health and assess what level is dominant for that child at the time of assessment. This can allow us to then predict health outcomes for that child and to steer community health practice.

Bronfenbrenner’s ES theory is logical. The concept that a human’s potential to succeed in life is more than their biological inheritance is important to understand. The interactions that we and others have, can directly or indirectly influence development. Even some choices we make, such as who we vote for and how governance, funding and policies will impact on services that will promote or disadvantage child development and family health outcomes should be carefully considered. Utilising Bronfenbrenner’s theory provides MCH nurses with a framework to understand the influences that come in to play when assessing a child’s development and how they may shape this. It provides the opportunity to reflect on our own lifetime experiences and how we can draw on our understanding of how the five systems interplay for each child, to provide optimal individualised care.

He moved away from biological factors and focussed on the individual, family structure, community and the world and how these integrate at a specific time in a person's life. It is crazy to think that Brofenbrenners Theory was only published in 1979. It shows how far society has come in the past 25 years. To me its so logical that a childs health, development and overall life experiences are a result of their surrounding environments on both a small and large scale, and not just a result of their biology. This stresses the importance MCHN's have in assessing each childs/families unique environment and providing interventions and or referrals when required.

My thoughts on Bronfenbenner Bioecological Model theory are that of thinking of the Child being in a giant petri dish in which we can add and subtract thoughts, ideas, beliefs and experiences to make things better or worse! The MCHN is in the ideal position to promote health and wellness and model behaviour that will have a positive impact on the child.
