Hi, my name is Amerika Kyabasinga and I am a first year college student majoring in Nursing. But, I will be transferring to University of South Carolina Upstate in Fall 2025. Since my senior year of high school, I have been a certified nursing assistant. It really has been an eye-opener to the felid because I work with nurses everyday. I shadow, help, and get an everyday scenario of where I could be in the next four years.

https://www.indeed.com/viewjob?jk=d3e700c750981e9c&from=shareddesktop

The rhetorical situation for this job posting is needing more nurses to help the patients get better and get them healed and out of the hospital for the next injured patient. The topic is the hospital is very short-staffed and need more nurses. They are currently overworking the current nurses. The audience is to nurses looking for another job or a new nurse that just got licensed. The channel is you apply and the hospital interviews you and then determines if you are the right candidate or not.

I would use the channel from the rhetorical appeal because this is the part where the company and the interviewer meet and discuss what they both need on the table. As the interviewer, I would go into detail about how I always wanted to be and nurse and hold passion for this career. I would then talk about how I am experienced and promise to care for each patient correctly. Which means giving out the right medicine to each patient, applying and practicing good wound care, working with time management correctly and efficiently, and also having a positive attitude while doing these factors. I would believe that I would be the perfect candidate and then the waiting game happens to see if you got the job or not.

DB: Identify Logical Fallacies and Appeals

https://youtu.be/mh6vHoyBs58?si=EBHlCsuABCuIENCS

This Sprite commercial featuring Drake, can be Begging the Question in logical fallacy. In the beginning of the commercial, you can see Drake wasn't feeling the urge to rap while in the studio. This is showing that he wasn't himself or didn't feel like doing his passion. Then one of his producers told him to drink a sprite and when he drunk it, he felt the urge to rap and wanted to finish the song. The commercial was advertising how Sprite could make you feel and to buy it to add some touch to your day. But, would you actually feel like this if you drunk a Sprite? Many could argue that Sprite couldn't make you feel that energized.

This Sprite commercial could emphasize pathos because of the emotional intent behind it. As you see in the beginning Drake is in the studio and isn't feeling it, and then the producers gave him a Sprite and he was back to rapping. This can indicate that even on your bad and dark days, Sprite can lighten your day or energize it.

It can emphasize ethos because this was Sprite's first global campaign. Having an upcoming rapper whose album just dropped during that time would've gotten people to listen and buy from the company. So, the audience put trust into Drake's commercial and this would reasonably relate to ethos.

This could emphasize logos because of how the soda company strategically marketed themselves into the hip-hop community. Having Drake as the guest in the commercial, it helped and promoted a lot of youth that are into sports and hip-hop. Later on, Lebron James was featured in a Sprite commercial as well.

In the TedTalk "Why You Think You're Right--Even if You're Wrong", Julia's main claim was why does people believe they are right, even though there is information pointing to how they are wrong. I agree with this concept because there are people like this in everyday situations, and I have been there myself. Julia was attempting persuasion when she used relatable daily actives like conversation or voting. The evidence provided was "solider mindset" and "scout mindset". Often people have a "solider mindset", which means that people agree with the own opinions whether it's right or wrong. But, Julia brought up "scout mindset", which is curiosity or interest to understand something whether its right or wrong. But, either way the concepts can still develop in conversations. It is enough evidence because she used the compare and contrast technique and used an example of the "Dreyfus Affair". The solider and scout mindset was her strongest point and her weakest point was making the whole concept bias because she is going off of how people's emotions come into part with the concept. Julia makes assumptions with how she tried to face real world problems with the scout mindset. She used logos by using the Dreyfus Affair as an example of the mindsets. She used ethos by creating these mindsets and contrasting it on how people use it in the real world. She used emotions and character to create ethos with the two mindsets. This video didn't use much pathos, but she did talk about high emotions with the Dreyfus Affair and how emotions can effect the mindsets. She was bias and reasoning in the entire video but she also framed a concept and used a clear analogy to make her claim easy to understand. It is effective because it can be easier to describe the person you are and it can make you second guess a opinion in the future.

This claim was effective because it makes you second guess an opinion you have when you are having an argumentative conversation or just brainstorming in general.

I started searching on Google for key resources. I found in 2018, school shootings in America were 10 times worse than 2025. In 2019, gun injury became the leading cause of death in children and infants in just America alone. Not that its completely stopped it was just worse in that time period. I found two articles of shooting happening in Parkland, Florida. Then, I saw another school majorette team using fake guns to portray a message about the shooting in America. If this many shooting was happening in 2018, I see how stressed and scared the students would be coming to a place of learning and being feared that something could go wrong. When I was critically reading, I wouldn't just look at the bigger picture like the shootings. But, take to accountability how the students would feel and how could America make schools be safe. It's been times where I've had to sit in multiple lockdowns when I was in primary school. What message could be portrayed for the government to see and how could this prevent another person from shooting a school. I also made an account with X to see the comments and many people were arguing about what can the next steps be. So, I would also relate the credibility off of that.

https://abcnews.go.com/US/teacher-coach14-year-freshman-florida-high-school-massacre/story?id=53092879

https://www.cnn.com/2018/10/08/us/mississippi-band-controversy-trnd

Evaluating Sources - Reflection

In the Crash Course video, Green mentions how deep an article can go with being researched. He mentioned that it can go from middle school students, high school students, college students, history professors, and even fact checkers. He mentioned that there was this one time a fact checker interviewed him for over an hour, but when he read the article, there were not mistakes in the article. I've done this before when I have written a biography about someone and I look at extra resources and track down the evidence to make the essay reasonable. But, there are some people like frequent journalists that don't always background check their work which causes anyone to mess up when trying to find the picture perfect evidence.

After watching the two videos and looking over the articles and the powerpoint. I learned that not all articles are true and sometimes you can be citing the wrong thing. Even the people that are writing the articles aren't always truthful about the information they are getting or what they are talking about. Even in the "About Us" category can be skeptical. Some new words for me were the healthy skepticism which is where you question an article or anything you are reading and evaluate it based on evidence you find. If I am writing about a article in the future, I would look into other articles to see if that source is true. Then go from there with evidence from those other sources. Next is the clustering effect. The clustering effect is where similar things group together in a specific area, creating pattern of random data. This is new to me as well so if I was to approach this, I would try to find the beginning of where the source originated and trace my steps back to where I found it.
