I believe that students enjoy having a book in their hand that is not digital. Books will not lose their value because the reward of turning a page is a fun part of reading. Some things will never go out of "style" and that is one of them.

Hi Alicia! This doesn't totally fit your question, but is close. The most recent writing assessment our 5th graders had a prompt about their local library wanting to teach kids about the past, and then they had to decide whether kids would prefer to learn more from books or movies. I did not read one single essay that picked books. I like to think that physical books will never lose their place, however, I am very concerned that they may be headed that way.

I don't think books have lost their place in the classroom, I still believe they should remain. However, I think students would prefer technology over them. It depends on the student and how they learn best. One student might learn best by hearing it read aloud (audio book) than reading it themselves, and another may prefer a physical book in hand. I think it is important to provide both opportunities and especially keep books in the classroom.

I said this in a similar post,It depends on the student. each child learns differently and should have a choice in what works best for them. I don't think books have lost their purpose I just think students should have options.

I think that for teachers, or professors, it has become increasingly easier to take snippets from books, show movies, or offer an e-book (especially for virtual or hybrid classrooms). I prefer holding a tangible book any day and I think they still have a place in the classroom, however I understand how our society has shifted towards movies or e-books. For example, I love to take physical notes with pen and paper. But, I can collaborate and write notes with other people on Google Docs, my notes can be stored in a cloud system or on my computer, and printed. I can add diagrams or graphs into my notes with 2 clicks of a button. I can lose my paper notes with an accidental nudge of my mug of tea. I think students are now getting to a point that they expect technology will be used over paper books or even going to the library.

I think both physical and e-books have their place in a classroom. Having a library of books is a very relaxing and calm feeling and I believe some students still enjoy reading that way. I think physical books will always have a place, especially as there may be more students than you think that do not have access to digital reading in their homes. However, that does not mean I think e-books or audiobooks are going anywhere either. I do think physical books will fade out a little more, but I don't think we will look at physical books the same way we look at record players.

This is so funny! I actually asked almost the exact same question before even reading yours! As I said in my post, I am a bookworm. I worry that students will struggle to gain the love of books that I have because they are experiencing less time with the physical copy of a book! While I see the benefits, I think ebooks take away from the whole reading experience.

I think that physical books will have a place somewhere in the world. Sadly the world is turning more towards technology, so maybe one day in the future students will not have a physical book to hold. I think students would prefer to hold a physical book, but they also might like to listen to an audio book.

I believe that students need physical books, rather than only technology. Personally physical books help students more than a tablet that also accesses games and other distractions. I do feel like physical copies of books have taken a loss in the schools, and even at home. I think that having your books all on one spot in a tablet is nice, but it also has its downfalls.
