When both of my parents lost their jobs in 2008 our family went through a hard winter. "The effect of the hardship depends on the way it affects daily life— in other words, the emotional response of the family and the
individual are what determines the psychological effect of the
event." (Unit 4 page 1) Because my family stayed close and worked through the winter while both of my parents didn't have job we were able to stay close. I know because of the perseverance that our family demonstrated, it made me a more loyal friend.

Peers

"Peers influence everyone’s life, even if people don't realize it,
just by spending time with together." (Unit 4 page 3) I know for sure that this is true because after hanging out with my closest youth group friends often we will pick up catch phrases from each other and we will all pass them around. One summer we all hung out with each other a lot and at the end of the summer we went on a camping trip together. There we realized that each one of us, there are four of us that are super close, had all picked up one of each others catch phrases. This is also evident at school when I am able to quickly teach one of my peers something that I learned in a class from a past year and they will understand it better than when it comes from the actual teacher.

Because my mom's parents are basically alcoholics, the gene passed on to my uncle and their kids as well who also drink. "Family members may model risk behaviors and deviance or effective emotional and social skills, and they may also endow their children with genes that predispose them to certain risks" (Unit 4 Page 2) Because my grandma demonstrated and demonstrates the drinking habits it then encouraged my Uncle and their kids to participate in drinking. This has been a negative effect on my family because whenever my cousins drink my sister and I don't really like hanging around them. And if they get hungover then they don't want to hang out with us because they have a headache and don't feel well.
